I would not blame the KIND of external MIC for this problem.
You need to address the kind of ADAPTER and/or PLUG you are using to connect the mic to the iRiver.
Its virtually impossible for us to “fix” every kind of minor “oddity” individuals encounter with various gear from out here in cyberspace (Right now, I need to take a cyberspace-walk and fix my computer tiles for re-entry.)
Let me strongly suggest that you take your whole setup to an experienced audio tech and have the tech help you get the connections right and I’ll bet your audio will improve tremendously.

No. Its virtually impossible to remove or even effectively attenuate unwanted reverb.
Now, on to more direct issues.
You say that you can hear clothing noise if the iRiver ITSELF is rubbed?
If you are SURE that this is the case, you do not have the correct plug to fit the iRiver’s input (and/or it is not plugged in properly to disable the internal mic.)This will definitely cause a VERY poor recording as the sound will reach the INTERNAL mic and the EXTERNAL mic just a micro-second apart and that will yield a terrible mix of audio sources.
We can’t really “fix” it from here in the distance, but again, if you’re SURE you can hear when the iRiver unit is being touched or rubbed WHILE the external mic is connected… you’ve GOT to get that remedied.

It is seems that from reading both of your posts that you do NOT have Chan. 1 panned to center.
If you have, in fact, deleted the Chan. 2 clips, simply select (highlight) all of the remaining Chan. 1 clips and choose:
Modify (menu) > Audio > Pan Center.

Sorry, but unfortunately you DO need a miracle.
A re-shoot is about all you can do as the symptoms you describe are virtually unfixable.
(Especially since SOME of the tracks you’re using are “good”.)Consider if the shooter had not bothered to focus… and everything in a certain setup was out-of-focus compared to the rest of the scenes.
You’d either need to re-shoot, not use the scene, or decide to go with it as-is and almost certainly call attention to the problem compared to the rest of the project.That’s pretty much where you are on the audio side, with an off-mic recording with inappropriate room reverb.

This first sentence answers the last one.
Apple does not officially “sanction” FW hard drives for FCP due of speed and accuracy issues.Try exporting to a QT Movie SELF-CONTAINED and put it on your INTERNAL HD (hope it fits, should be about 6 Gigs).
Then play that QT file in FCP as you record it to tape.

1. Do you have a deck that has the ability to insert?
(Most DV decks can NOT, but most Beta decks CAN.)2. Do you have your deck controlled by FCP via RS-422 (and not just FireWire)?
If you can answer “yes” to both of these questions, then you can use “Edit to Tape” and set it to “Insert” with only the Video track selected, and perform the edit.
If you CAN’T answer “yes” to both of these questions, then you can’t Insert edit.

Do you mean PRINT to Video, or EDIT to Tape?
They are not the same thing and require different kinds of hook-ups (and decks).
Are you making a DV project?
What kind of deck or camcorder are you using?If you just want to RECORD your timeline,
you can either use “Print to Video” or just hit record on your deck/camcorder and PLAY the timeline. -
Set an IN and and OUT mark and look at the Duration time.

Mine has worked 24/7 in my small dubbing setup for years.
The quailty is pretty good and it syncs-up virtually any two sources perfectly.
There are newer units that accept and output FireWire and that will give you an even better image, but if you need a basic “effects” ditital switcher, this one is fine.
