1. You must only judge quality on an external video monitor and not the computer monitor.
2. Any time you make an image size-change in any video system, it will affect the original quality.

Is the audio output

Well then, if you ever do need to trash the preferences, you can do it manually based on all the info that is in the link mentioned in the other post.

The first thing to always try is to Quit FCP, Restart the Mac, Open your FCP project and try again.

A great way to do this is to use “FCP Rescue” a free Apple Script that will Trash the Preferences for you (and restore nearly all of your user settings afterward).

This is one FCP tip that has helped in solving hundreds of “odd” problems.

Locate the “Tracks” column in the Browser.
Now, make sure that all of your (incorrectly-logged) clips are Selected (highlighted) and…Then, (in the Tracks column) Control-Click (and HOLD the mouse button down)
on ONE of these clips and choose: “1V 2A” (1 Video Track, 2 Audio Tracks).All of the clips should now show this new setting.

Just buy an under $20 “A-B” audio switch. (Even Wal-Mart has ’em).
Here’s an A-B-C-D switch from Radio Shack that has audio AND video for $19.99 (just use as many of the inputs as you need).

Plug the Mac’s audio out to the A input and the deck or camcorder’s audio to the B input and send the output to your amp/speakers.
Or (as ddubious said) use an inexpensive mixer.

He wants the audio from the Mac to go THRU the FW.
As to using an audio mixer from all of your analog sources, that’s a good idea… in fact, that’s the way its done in thousands of pro edit bays around the world.

The clip may have an “invisible” flaw on the tape.
You might try to put the clip on its own timeline and, if it plays fine like that, export a self-contained QT movie of it, and re-import that QT movie to use in place of the clip.

That is the biggest problem with creating “fun” for someone ELSE.
Humor is very SUBJECTIVE.You really should stay completely CLEAR of “editorializing” on your own.
What will happen is that someone (not necessarily the newlyweds) will get offended and the bride will say, “Well, AL, the video guy did that. I don’t know WHY he did that to you.”

Cut the show together, don’t ADD anything embarrassing (when in DOUBT, leave it OUT), use some “unusual” wipes, maybe drop in a few thought balloons, but nothing derogatory.In short:
If the WEDDING CEREMONY was FUNNY… just cut it the way it was presented (you can’t go wrong there).
If the CEREMONY was NOT FUNNY… don’t ADD “funny stuff” to it… you MIGHT give someone a chuckle… but you WILL be ALTERING someone else’s event (chance of making a mistake… 80+%).
Your post’s Subject Line (“The bride WANTS cheesy effects”) indicates how ODD this request is… IMHO, be very careful.
OTOH, you can ignore all this and probably be a big success with the kind of people who find marriages and family events to be a joke.

I believe the setting is called, “Set Logging Bin”.
It is found in the Browser with “right-click” on a 2-button mouse or a “control-click” on a 1-button mouse.
