Get cinemacraft.
And don’t use multipass with Cinemacraft.
Single pass at 7 mBit CBR will give gorgeous results,
and it should be a 45 min. render max.

(I’m running an old version of Cinemacraft on a quad 3 gig PC, and i get about 3 times faster than RT encode, at CPU rates that allows me to keep the machine for other work.)

and you got nice options to customize the look.

I suspect the fast motion to be the problem.
A ‘good’ de-interlacer tries only to de-interlace when it is needed, leaving static shots intact.

You could use a brute blend option to force everything to be de-interlaced, but you end up with a way blurry end result.

If you can’t trust the de-interlacing option in software DVD players,
i would suggest trying every package you can get your hands on…

Jim is right, and that is as good as it gets.
Forget about 10 bits, you have only an 8 bits source file,
nothing to gain there.
Plain ProRes is ‘lossless’.

Now if you need to upscale to HD, that is another form of black magic…

well,
I could write something that takes the TC info from the XML and puts it in the transcoded QT’s, but that will take me at least an hour, and i will bill you for it.
So my advice is to byte the bullet.
Open the folder containing the Mp4’s, set the folder to list view and sort on name or creation time.
Next, go trough your bin and set the TC manually.
Should be very well doable, and take you less time than me to code it.
(unless you have zillions of clips that is…)

QTchange works on QT files. Although Mp4 is QT compatible, i’m not sure how the TC is in there.

At least for now, QT change looks at the .mov extension.
(Even if you have hidden them in your OS, it will work.)

So it won’t find .Mp4 files.

Now when you transcode the .Mp4 to a .Mov, the filedate as TC source won’t work, as there is a new file created….

Of course it will be possible to make ‘something’, buti need to see a testclip, and it might turn out to be concidered a custom job, if i don’t see common use for many others.

QTchange is capable of removing the TC track, but not without opening it.
however, it does not need to decode anything, so perhaps it will work…

But again, i doubt it’s the TC track.

There seems to be bitrot on files occuring all over the world.
Neil S. had troubles with corrupted files, i myself recently had very weird stuff going on with files written on PC using MacDrive, that weren’t able to read correctly on Mac, but fine on PC…

I guess it’s the weather.

I also like aux tc, as i never ever want to mess up my original tc…

However, setting AUX TC is almost exatcly the same as altering normal TC.
A new TC track is added to the original QT file on disk….
