Remove the heat sink from the card, and see if you can see the brand of chip printed on the 10G chip.
I just looked at –

I just looked at the compatibility chart for the 1282, and I see that the QXG-10G1T is compatible with it.

The Promise SanLink3 was the first thunderbolt 3 to 10G Ethernet adaptor that came out (NAB 2017). I tested it on the floor when it came out – it was doing as you observe – excellent READ speeds, but write speeds that stop at 350 MB/sec ? Why ? I have no idea why. The Sonnet Solo 10G for thunderbolt 3 has both excellent READ AND WRITE speeds. I know that the Sonnet is using the Aquantia ACQ107 chip (same 10G chip as in the iMac Pro). What is Promise using ? I have no idea.
Please bear in mind that QNAP makes some pretty crappy 10G boards as well. You have not stated exactly what QNAP you are using. If your QNAP has the QNAP LAN-10G2T-X550 with the Intel X550 chip in it, you will get great performance with the Sonnet. Same with the QNAP QXG-10G1T which is their new 10G card for their smaller models. However, if you use the QNAP LAN-10G1TA, that uses the horrible Tehuti 10G chip, and you will get slow speeds, EVEN if you have the Sonnet Solo 10G.
Everything is a variable.

Scott Hill –they probably couldn’t edit on AVID to save their lives, not to even speak of FCP 7, FCP X, Adobe Premiere, Sony Vegas, and Davinci Resolve. You know what this means ? This means that they were “creative editors” that learned film, and could not be bothered learning anything new, and they stuck with what they know. If they were young, they would never be hired today. Just like most of the famous DP’s that refused to learn RED, Arri, and Sony 4K workflows (nothing can replace 35mm Panavision and Arri).
This is no different than idiots my age that say “the Beatles were the best band ever”. Exactly what are you going to do with a Rickenbacker 12 string and a Vox amplifier today ?

this is WAY beyond my knowledge – that’s for sure.
IBM is not typically what you see in a video environment. Not even for a huge company like a TV network.

It might be the beginning of a series, with a larger model that will house an AMD Vega 64 or WX9100.
So Blackmagic is entering the market of Sonnet and Akitio, as the Decklink market starts to dry up.I think this is VERY interesting.

your thunderbolt 2 to 10G adaptors should be Sonnet Twin 10G. You have 2015 iMac’s – you cannot use a Sonnet Solo 10G

you can do RAID 5 for the ability for 1 drive to fail without losing your data, and RAID 6 for the ability to allow for 2 drives to fail before losing all your data. For large data backups, Backblaze B2 will simply send you a Synology, tell you to back it up and ship it to them. You can just buy a second unit and do this yourself.If you have more than 2 client computers, you must get a switch. If you don’t have $589 for an 8 port QNAP 10G switch, then you should not even be doing this project.
With a 1G connection, you get 100 MB/sec. With a 10G connection, you get dramatically faster than this, but your client computers must have thunderbolt to 10G adaptors, and yes, that costs money. A Thunderbolt 3 to 10G adaptor from Sonnet is under $200 and a thunderbolt 2 to 10G adaptor is under $500. If you say “we can’t afford this” – then you get 100 MB/sec over a 1G connection.If you have backup running 24 hours a day, you will lose performance in any NAS system. You schedule your backup so you are not backing up while people are editing.
