<p>I use U.2 NVMe drives all the time.  I install them in QNAP TS-h1290FX and QNAP TS-h2490FU systems.  U.2 (and U.3) NVMe drives are the fastest drives on the market. I have only used them in a RAID configuration &#8211; never as single drives.  Another new product that uses U.2 NVMe drives is the Blackmagic Design Cloud Dock 4 and Cloud Dock 2,&hellip;</p>

<p>Your TVS-h1688X needs two 480 Gig SSD drives to hold the ZFS operating system. You build this first.  Then the RAID group, as a single thin provisioned RAID &#8211; RAID 6.  I can&#8217;t believe you are using 4TB drives &#8211; such a waste &#8211; get bigger drives.  You will regret only having 40TB of storage in this&hellip;</p>

<p>with Big Sur, it&#8217;s over. Up through 10.15.7 Catalina, I would go into recovery mode on the Mac, and disable System Integrity Protection, by typing into terminal &#8220;csrutil disable&#8221; and reboot the Mac.  Then I could load Sonnet Twin 10G and Promise SanLink2 drivers.  But with the introduction of Big Sur 11.x, that no longer seems to work.&hellip;</p>

<p>30 editors is a lot of editors on a single system, even for a Terrablock Hub 16.  You want to do Apple ProRes 1080 HD at 25 fps.  That is 17.27 MB/sec (AJA Data Calc).  So that is 1036 MB/sec total bandwidth. </p>
<p>With a 16 bay NAS, you get about 1800 MB/sec total aggregate bandwidth.  So for QNAP, you would choose a QNAP TS-h1683XU-RP.&hellip;</p>

You can put them on the disks (I did this by accident the first time I built one), but it is the wrong thing to do. Take the ForA out of the equation !  You don&#8217;t need it. </p>

<p>I just called OWC at (800) 275 4576.  I spoke with Celeste in Customer Support.   She said they have not heard of Tolis Group, nor are they offering support of Tolis Group products.  How could this be ?   So I went to <a target='_blank' href="https://www.owc.com" rel="nofollow">https://www.owc.com</a> and there is no mention of Tolis Group or BRU.  Now, I if I do a Google search on this, I&hellip;</p>

<p>And you do know, when you go to eBay to get the cheapest BetaSP machine you can find, the odds are, it will break while you are using it, and chew up your tapes</p>

<p>really ?  I bet there is nothing wrong with your TS-1685.  Since you are going to move everything to another NAS, setup the new NAS ( I do this for a living), transfer your data onto the new NAS with Hybrid Backup Sync, wipe out the TS-1685, rebuild the RAID group (static volume), create a SMB shared folder, and you will&hellip;</p>

<p>Apple started to support SMB with FCP X 10.3.  That was years ago,  NFS is a mess, and</p>
<p>the leading expert of NFS, Marcel Bresink, always complains about how Apple has been handling NFS, which is not at all !</p>
