I had forgotten that I was shooting 60p on my Canon HFG30, until yesterday when I was trying to answer another question. Interestingly, I always shoot with a second camera which is a Canon XH-A1. Both shoot in HD, but the XH-A1 shoots 60i. I was also surprised that the file sizes produced by the two cameras is not much different. Both cameras produce an AVCHD file, but with an .mts extension for the G30 and an .m2t extension for the XH. Vegas doesn’t seem to notice much difference in the video, but the video from the HFG30 definitely looks better. That is partly due to things like auto focus which includes face detection, and, I am sure, other technical improvements in the newer camera.

What processor and its speed, how much ram, how much hard drive space, how many drives, which version of Windows, etc. It sounds like your computer is very underpowered.

I hope you did not install the whole klight pack. That has been known to overwrite the codecs used by Vegas, and would probably do the same to Sound Forge. That is why I said to install just the codec for amr.

Yes, my version of SVP does that, but it also brings up a menu at that point. When you right click, Windows/SVP wants to know what you want to do at this point.

Try setting an endpoint. Position the cursor at the end of your last “event” on the timeline, and press the “O” key (for Out point). Go to the beginning, and press the “I” key (for In point). Then click on “render loop region only” in your render screen. Based on your image, that should work fine because you won’t get anywhere close to 42 minutes.

There is an article on wikipedia that discusses this format. There are also free downloads of the codec (use “amr codec download” in Google). There are also free conversion programs (use “.amr audio file” in Google) which will convert the files to formats that Vegas and Sound Forge can use. If you install a codec, I would be sure that only the amr codec is installed.

I am seeing it in the clip playing back on the camera, and it is clear that both time and date are being recorded. I am still looking for a way to see it on the computer.

Leaving it on will not hurt the computer. In the day, we left ours on 24X7, and never had a problem. Computers are a lot better today in terms of reliability. Unless you have problems with BSODs, you should have no trouble IMHO.

On the HFG 30, set the “User Bit Type” to “Date”. Now, when you record your video, the time and date will be superimposed on the image. I just tested this, and it does work. That does, of course, presuppose that time and date have been set. I have not yet tested the “Time” setting to see what that does. Thanks for the question. It made me look deeper into the camera.

I had this problem some time ago. The fix, for me, is to right click on the event in the time line, and select switches. Within switches, click on (select) both “reduce interface flicker” and “force resample”. That eliminated my flicker.
