RE – SD2 files: They are only designated as an “Avid Media File” in the info tab, and identified as “.omf” files. Quicktime plays them just fine, whatever they are.

The crazy thing is that they look exactly the same as files that Avid recognizes. I have two video clips, digitized with audio, from the same tape at the same time into the same project on the same drive.
One clip plays back fine, the other, the audio files are rejected by Avid (when building a database) and only the video comes up in the project.

Both clips are recognized, and play back properly when brought up on the old system. Very puzzling.

By the way, my hopes of just consolidating my way out of this problem have been dashed. The new consolidated audio files were rejected just the same as the originals.

    Consolidate the clips.

Open up your “File Footage Project”, select a clip, click consolidate.

You have the choice of creating a totally new file, with new media, or linking the new
master clip to the original media. Safest to create a totally new file, and to uncheck “delete original media”, which will leave your original files completely alone – probably best until you get the hang of it.

At any rate, the new clips will be associated with your File project. Once you’ve verified this, you can delete your old files. ( Remember, if you go with option 2, and you’ve linked the new master clip to the original media, to only delete the master clip – not the media files!)

Try a few tests before you do it for real.

    Cheers,
    Bob
