old OMF files not recognized by new MC
I have a project that I am moving from an old Avid Express system to a new Media Composer system on a Mac Pro.
It appears that the vast majority of material is transferring perfectly – no problems with AVR resolutions (AVR 3,12,77), and no problems with audio sample rates, audio sounds fine.
But there are some files – files that appear in all respects exactly the same as the acceptable files – that MC is rejecting.
Most of the rejected files are audio files, and most of those are associated with video- so I’m trying to maintain that linkage. Other clips, digitized at the same exact time, on the same day, work fine. The video plays with it’s associated audio, no problem.
The audio plays fine in Quicktime – so the media is not corrupt, is seems there’s just something about the file name that Avid doesn’t like.
The message I receive as MC is building a new database is “does not appear to be an OMF file” with the usual quarantine or ignore options.
What I’ve tried so far:
I can import the audio files into a bin individually and get a nice audio-only file – but this, of course, does not keep the association with the video.
I have tried copying one of the audio files and completely re-typing the file name (2035A02.B77B89DE_B6B77B… and so on), but it is still rejected out of hand.
I have tried renaming an audio file as an AIFF or .mov – just to see what it might do – it doesn’t reject the files as it builds the database, but the audio stays offline.
On the old system, I tried consolidating one of the video/audio clips so that I have a completely new file. That’s an unfinished experiment – I haven’t imported that into the Mac Pro yet to see if it accepts it.
At this point, if that works, it looks like I’ll go that route.
What do you think? Any more elegant solutions?
Thanks,
Bob
