  • Some great advice from the others, but, go to Menu in the Canon, it has 7 levels of sharpness + a lot more. , it is all there , check the manual or check with Canon service , it is free.

    Good luck

    # Customizing a Picture Style # It is on page 61 of the Canon 5D Mark II Manual.

  • Well, we run a simple Dell XEON Workstation i7 64 bit Quad Core 12MB Ram @2.27 Ghz and Raid 0, 1Tb Hard drives at 15,000 rpm and a Nvidia Quadro FX 3800 for the Mercury Engine in CS5.5.2 ; on H.264mov clips at 1920 x 1080 p and even without running it, it is very, very fast. Jeff and Chris are worth listening to.

    Good luck !

Ps. I hate to say it, but trial Sony Vegas Pro 11 or even Platinum and it is still a tad faster running in 32 bit software ? But, we have been with Premiere Pro since the beginning with PP 1.5.1 HDV/mpeg-2 and I still like using it.

    Hi Dan,

I have been Importing Canon 5d Mark II h.264 mov codec clips @ 1920 x 1080p directly into the project window in Sony Vegas Movie Studio Platinum 11 and tested on Pro 11 the same thing ; and they open up by dragging into timeline, you do not need to do anything, no conversion as previously. Make sure you have all upgrades.
It is in fact faster than Adobe CS5.5.2 Premiere Pro with an XEON Quad Core Processor i7 64 bit running a Nvidia Quadro FX3800 Graphics card.

We have done about 50 Exports to Blu-ray @ 35mbps 1920 x 1080p and Pro tape @ 25 mbps 1080 x 1440 HDV/mpeg-2 (anamorphic) with no issues with original footage from the Canon. The video stabilizer is amazing and so is the quality.

    Good luck !

We are PAL at 25fps, it is broadcast high definition.
Make sure you have installed Quicktime 7.6.6 software for the Quicktime features which should work the H.264mov files.

July 12, 2012 at 10:11 pm in reply to: possible cinestyle problem

    Hi Richard,

In my opinion “Technicolor” can degrade the quality out of your camera which is set to sRGB , I think, but, nothing like technicolor on the 35mm Cinema screens which was very good or a Blu-ray you can do ,yourself. Unless they go real “arty”. In fact much of the HD video on blu-ray is superior to film or digital production cinema projected movies.

Thomas, is right, Sony Vegas is a professional tool, so is Adobe Premiere Pro CS5.5.2 you can do nearly anything you like…………..

It is interesting reflecting on what Thomas has said >Also check our Marvels, Kodachrome, Velvia and SuperFlat picture profiles… Some very creative people making picture profiles for DSLR’s

The high level of old 35mm negative and positive film technology is still the basis for new advances, but, the video from the latest Canon 5 D mark II and III and the Nikons which requires little color grading is simply astounding.
