    Ah Joe,
You are so right.Apparently Canon Techs and Adobe and Final Cut Pro are getting their brains together for Canon’s new camcorder and fix the editing problem.Would you believe Canon is releasing new Firmware via Internet download in mid March to upgrade the Canon 5D Mark II so that 24 & 25 fps will be available at 1920 x 1080 amazing , this will make things easier in PAL land because all our stuff is basically 25fps and the Canon 5D mark II is 30 fps. But, realy with 5 upgrades to Premiere Pro since 1.5 was released in about 2005 nothing much has progressed except perhaps editing speed with the newer Duo Cores.
    Happy editing !
We try to keep things simple, with fewer computer upgrade and software. Some Adobe Premiere Pro techs in the Pacific are close to incompetent, they do not understand their own beautifull product.

We still use the Canon HV20 , Canon Service have upgraded it and it runs better than brand new.It will take the output of the 5D markII exported via Tape and you would be hard to pick any difference. But, the full frame sensor of the 5D does real 35mm movie work handled properly.
That said the Canon HV 20,30 and 40 worked correctly gives professional results.

Try rendering the timeline. We have just completed 5 major projects using 400+ jpeg 1920×1080 high definition images in each for use on a Sony 46′ Full High Definition Monitor using High Definition Tape via HDMI input, but, we render everything. Go to left side of window above Project File>Edit>Project>Clip>Sequence^ Click and Render Work Area. Good luck.

The red line should go to green, now play the timeline? Activate the timeline by clicking on the light blue window bar , it should go dark blue. You should have the images in the Monitor Window, we do not use split screen.

Karen, Make sure your images are the correct size (pixels)?for your Export requirement. Also the time in seconds for each image is set in Project Settings ours is set at 4 secs, we know nothing of animation but, I suspect this could be part of your problem, if it was set at 1 sec you may not see anything?

    Hi Joe,
We were having problems in Exporting to Tape in Premiere Pro off the timeline as it would not recognise the Canon HV20 @ PAL 25fps our fault (as the Project was set to 30fps to suit mov files from a Canon 5D mark II captured @ 30fps)However Premiere Pro did generate the mt2 file which was not accepted in Pro but when Imported into Premiere Elements 4 rendered and worked like a charm. We have since sorted this out with the Projects setting as PAL 25fps, import the 30fps Canon D Mark II (Quicktime mov . files (clips)on to the timeline and change the speed & Audio modulation with right click(Speed/Duration) to correct movement in Premiere Pro. Or render and transcode the whole timeline in Export to Movie using the Cineform 1.5.1 Upgrade.

The results are highly professional in High Definition, if you know an easier way let me know?

We still use the older software as it was designed for XP and works perfectly well if not a little slow at times. We have trialled CS4 , Vegas Pro 9 but no real advance for what we do, travel docs, fashion shows and art etc I run a DEll 8400 Windows Premiere Pro Specified Computer and my son is into Apple Mac and has been for 15 years

Ps. My son who runs the Web Design business and videos fashion etc has run into trouble using Final Cut Pro particularly in regards to rendering mov files from The Canon 5D mark II in mov but, the lower amature version works Ok but , without the bells and whistles. The Canon 5D Mark II works very well for the work we do, quite amazing in low level light.

An m2t file generated in Premiere Pro can easily be Imported into Premiere Elements 4-8 and Exported to Tape from that software. No problems. We do it all the time in PAL territory as the Project setting is set automatically at 25fps which suits the Canon HV20 and boy the results in High definition is very good indeed. Tape only no DVD

I agree with you, but for some reason degrading HD video does not seem trhe way to go !

Ps. It is more a criticism of cinemas than actual production

I should have added Standard Digital in 16:9 Widescreen if that is where your passion is? I prefer the the look of old movies on a High Definition Sony 46″ than going to the cinema. It does look like the movie look.
Technically you can produce a better product in Premiere Pro than many of the professional movie makers of to-day, most times a movie shown on a High definition Monitor is superior to the showing of the same film at a cinema ie, sharper, brighter, more colourful and with perfect sound and nobody eating popcorn ?

It is a matter of perception but, the film look of to-day in the multiplex cinemas does not match the majority of single projection cinemas of say 15 years ago ????? one projectionist of 6 screens running off platters is no match to the single projectionists of the past.https://www.vtpcorp.com/htm/vidfilm.htm Check this out>>>

In camera is the best way to go.Less strain on computer in rendering etc.I am an old projectionist , do you realy want to degrade the High Definition look. Movie film is still the best way to go only if the film is in sharp focus and the light is right. I am not impressed with the latest offering of digital projection on 100 foot screens in Australia, the colour is not as good as film(according to the chief projectionist & I agree)

The film look is achieved by using Standard Digital dowgrading in Premiere Pro , ie. to DVD not Blu -Ray or Export to Tape in 720 x 576
    .
You may not agree with this but, motion picture projection was cleaner, brighter and sharper than it is to-day, you want to get to this not the poor projection work of to-days cinemas?????????

  • Anyone I have spoken to have problems editing hard drive camcorders.

We have used a Canon HV20 (now HV40)for 2 years and the results to Export to Tape in High Definition is broadcast quality either from a Canon EOS 5D mark II @ 1920x1080p or HDV 1920×1080 from the HV20
