    4×3 format SD tape import looks ok on monitor , but, the DVD produced does not display correctly ? The format looks slightly thinner in width?

    I have been archiving old Hi- 8 SD tape and when displayed on the PC monitor looks right. And looks correct on a TV Monitor.

    But, the DVD when produced looks right on a TV monitor but, thinner when imported back as a DVD into Adobe Premiere Pro , how can I adjust this ? I know a 1,000pixels instead of 720 would fix the issue, i have checked it in Photoshop.
    I have others that need extra editing, as the previous Sequences have been removed from the computer ?

    usually this is caused by pixel aspect ratio. premiere usually reads it properly, but if it doesn’t you can change it to a new value. in the project bin, right click the file(s) and choose modify, interpret footage. there is an option for pixel aspect ratio, you can try some till one looks right. the 1.21 or 1.45 might do what you are looking for…

    it was only a long shot, if you have Adobe Premiere Pro CS5 or 6 just introduce the still flickering shot on to the timeline and stabilize it.We use the Adobe approved plug-in the German Pro Dad Mercalli V2 May be worth a try.

    We use Canon 5 D Mark II,s all the time , but, not as adventurous as you, we are mad enough ?

    Good luck ,Warren does make more sense. You could try Canon Photo Digital Professional that came with the camera, we use it all the time.

    Try using the stabilizer in CS 5.5.2 Premiere Pro and save still image ???????????

    I still reckon you will have to convert to jpeg ? This is really outside the box.

    OK I did have Photoshop Elements 9 in and it does do CR2, but, I think Canon Photo Pro is better ?

    And, I have managed to get PE 6 do the Canon CR2

    files from their latest Plug-In

    PE 6 BUT, I DO USE CANON DIGITAL PROFESSIONAL, SOMETIMES IN ADOBE Photoshop Elements 6 , but is will not convert ?

    You apparently know the Canon HV40 and have never had Susan’s problem? Nor have I.

    Hope she gets it right, I cannot understand why she would want to convert perfectly good , sharp footage when Adobe or Final Cut Pro would do it in any case automatically, unless I am just lucky, you have got to be sometime.

  • We never use FC Pro in the Mac, now only Premiere Pro in the PC with Mercalli V2 Pro Stabilizer Plug-In if needed or the in built Warp stabiliser in CS6. You should use a Canon Image Stabilised Lens IS on the Canon SLR, sometimes a rolling shutter effect found in some SLR’s cause some poor panning.

    I must say the Canon HV40 is a tape camcorder we have used intermittently for over 5 years as a back up unit, and should not be causing an issue.

    There is no need to convert the data from the HV40 to h.264 mov, in any case Adobe CS.5.2 or 6 can easily use the data on the timeline at the correct resolution perfectly, just import the files ?

  • I agree, the footage is just stunning. We run a Sony HXR-NX 30P Pro corder which is top end AVCHD and the Canon HV20/30/40 can still give that a run for the money. The original footage is very sharp for a 1440 x 1080i anamorphic camcorder, the Canon 5D mark II and III have an edge, but, not much.

    You should have no issues editing most footage in ADOBE CS5/6 Premiere Pro and on the same timeline, including Digital 8, Hi-8, SD and HDV ,1920 x 1080p H.264 mov or 1440 x 1080 from the HV40

    Hi Nick,

    Well we have used two Canon 5D Mark II’s HDV at 1920 x 1080p and have never had that problem OVER 4 YEARS.. I suggest, however, that you buy one of their Professional EF Stabilized lens like the 70-200mm which has a special horizontal stabilizer (in Australia).We operate at 1/60 sec shutter speed at 25fps never 24fps. We normally use the 35-135 EF IS f3.5 lens because of it’s light weight, it is a consumer type lens and never a panning issue? But, pan very slowly ######
