Peaks? I thought it was all supposed to be even. 80IRE? I thought the chroma screen was supposed to be one stop lower than the light on the subject.

I must be “not getting something” here.

Ron, eight days ago I had deep abdominal surgery via Da Vinci – and a human being.

The day after surgery, he stopped in my room, and I told him about this debate. Yes, he said, the machine can record everything that he does. Yes, it has a better memory than humans. Yes, some day, AI might do it all. “BUT” … He believes that the big problem will be “vision.” Every single human he has operated on, he said, was “a snowflake.” Each one is different. And the Da Vinci’s vision is not yet acute enough to interpret what it “sees,” since it cannot possibly have seen it before.

He was already in his scrubs, being called into the OR for his next patient, and I was on some very dreamy pain meds, so that is as far as our dialog went. I don’t understand enough to interpret it in any way. Just reporting what he said. Vision, and snowflakes.

I suspect that this is a “horses for courses” argument. Some surgeries – AI will be great. Some ASPECTS of almost all surgeries – yes.

Others – not for a very long time.

I can relate.

Back in the days of 2″ tape… I had a documentary premiering on the local PBS station prior to a national airing. The capstan on the tape machine was out of whack, so every music cue sounded like… well, it sounded just horrible, wowing in and out, mostly out, of pitch.

I called the station in a panic after the first five minutes — but they couldn’t fix it.

The composer of the score (who eventually won an Emmy for the piece) was so distraught during the broadcast that he considered throwing himself out of the window. But since he lived on the first floor of the apartment building, he didn’t.

I’ll never forget it.

No… My guess: They tried the easiest one first, and when it played, they went with that.

I get that, but I was looking for a real-world example, from someone who’d actually done it. I will now diligently
look at the manual.

As a test, I tried a restore on a different computer, and immediately found myself in a world of confusion regarding the location of the (now-disconnected) RAID. There’s no doubt that Resolve, while wonderful, is structured very differently from my old stand-by, FCP 7, which took such operations in its stride.

Thank you. Do you know the differences between “Backup” and “Export Project File”?

I’m guessing that “Backup” includes lots of projects, while “Export Project File” copies only the selected project.

Here are current file sizes for my three backups:

1. BACKUP: Local Database.resolve.diskdb – 29 MB,
2. EXPORT PROJECT FILE: [ProjectName].drp – 564 KB
3. ARCHIVE – 5.62 GB; inside that folder is the project.drp – 567 KB

Me too, but I want to hear whether the new MBP’s keyboard issue has been resolved.

eGPU or not, and apart from the keyboard issue, has anyone here tested Resolve 15 with the 2018 MBP? I have performance issues when editing multi-layer video with Resolve 14, using my mid-2014 MBP.
