Tim, I believe you. But without naming names, I can assure you that some very big Avid shops in the national broadcast world do not have the latest QT codec and won’t, won’t, won’t get it. One wound up using a .wmv 320×180 file instead of the very high quality HD file – for national tv.

I need to output a file that was edited on FCP, Apple ProRes422, so that someone in another city can put the footage into PC-based Premiere.

What would be the safest format for me to use, so that he has the best chance of this working on his PC?

Okay – haven’t tried that yet, but I want to endorse this material. Wow, what a nice inexpensive alternative to the “optically clear” ND. I used it over big windows for some tungsten-balanced interiors, and had no problem with the color balance. It looks more gray than blue.

You’re encouraging bad behavior by giving away tech support. Why on earth would any sane employer change, when they get 20 hours of support for 10 hours of pay? They avoid paying for new equipment and integration, AND they aren’t paying the price for their avoidance – you are.

I detect a lot of resentment in the way you’ve described the situation, and that’s not healthy for you. And, you’re ready to quit anyway, right? So change the dynamics.

Is someone calling my name? No, Aaron, I’m totally in favor of other people calling out bad pay clients. I wouldn’t do it myself, but I appreciate the warning from others. Mainly, when I advise people not to air their dirty laundry here, it is in employee-employer situations, when they think they have anonymity which they don’t actually have (i.e. they do not name their employer, but sign their real name, apparently unaware that their “discretion” is totally undermined by Google).

Sounds interesting. How far in front of the softbox do you hang your Lee216? Do you use a grid on the softbox, or do you flag the key so it doesn’t hit the background? I’m just thinking about the ambient light that would result from this setup, and how it would dilute the “drama” of using a Source 4 with a pattern on the background.

iirc the Schneider/Century Optics website will specify which camera a given adapter will fit.

An added concern: the simplicity of switching to and from using the adapter. I too am interested in a wide angle adapter for the EX1R. There are some adapters which require macro mode and switching the focus mode, and (I believe anyway) some which do not. If anyone has already compiled this data, I’d like to know which is the most trouble-free wide angle adapter. In the midst of a hectic documentary production day, I would think that it would be good to eliminate as many steps, and variables, as possible. Why would I want to use an adapter which required any more steps than necessary? (I realize that these steps probably become automatic, but still, given a choice between simple and complex, I vote for simple.)
