Right. When I read a do-it-all description like this one, I tend to think it’s a relatively low-paid job. They shouldn’t expect anyone with all of these qualifications to do everything they’ve listed – he or she would be too highly qualified!

more details please! I rely on my Diva, and haven’t noticed this. How long does it take for them to “heat up” to the point where they go green?

Do you use minusgreen on your Divas to counteract this?

Please do keep us updated. My own experience with CalDigit tech support has been superb. They have helped me way past my warranty period, when I had a very difficult-to-trace problem that turned out to be a cable which simply failed over time, despite not having been moved for 2+ years. I’m sorry you had a different experience. They’d better fix it, fast! For me, tech support is THE MOST important variable when choosing a vendor. Even more important than the performance numbers.

First, I am speaking from ignorance, but experienced ignorance!

But in my limited experience, there is no need for CalDigit firmware. I know that CalDigit used to insist on CalDigit-vetted drives, but I suspect that was more a matter of their selecting and testing the drives than anything else.

My HDOne started with all CalDigit-supplied drives. As they have failed (three of them), I sent them to Seagate for replacement under warranty. I put the replacement drives from Seagate into the HDOne as-is, without any firmware upgrades. They have worked fine.

When I started thinking about doubling the storage by replacing my 1TB with 2TB drives, I called CalDigit, bec. their website indicated that they were temporarily not able to supply the drives. So I asked what I could do. They were more open this time. My sense from talking with some CalDigit folks is that I will be fine with replacement drives, as long as they are no larger than 2TB. From reading online, I discovered that certain drives are listed as being especially appropriate for RAIDs.

Hear, hear. This is especially problematic when the client is not in the suite, and views the edit on his own computer. When I deliver a .wmv file with a highly-saturated blue background, and the client says it looks “muddy” on his never-calibrated laptop, I’m at a loss.

Is there a simple way for clients to calibrate their own monitors?

Thank you everyone. I’ll send the BPAV folder. But in the interest of making it as simple as possible for the client, I still want to try to give them transcoded files. I’ve found that the files from FCP7’s Log & Transfer process will not work for one client’s version of Premiere. I will try the .h264 transcode.

Incidentally, last winter I had a major hassle exporting files from FCP7 (from a variety of sources, not just EXCAM) to a major (big 3) network news operation. They were on Avid PC’s, and apparently a generation back, definitely not in sync with the latest Quicktime-to-Avid format. Sadly, under deadline pressure they wound up using low-res proxies from the YouTube version of the footage. Ugh. Ly.

Still researching the question of which 2TB drives to buy, to double the storage of my CalDigit HDOne tower.

Down to Western Digital RE drives, but having a hard time figuring out which is more appropriate: RE WD2000FYYZ vs. RE4 WD2003FYYS.

Any opinions/guidance is welcome.

Whenever my RAID or any of my internal SATA drives (in my MacPro) “disappear,” Disk Warrior has been able to recover them.

I have no idea at all as to whether it will help you. You may want to do more sleuthing online. But DW has never hurt me, as far as I know; and it has been very helpful on occasion.

Have you tried running Disk Warrior to see whether it is a corrupt directory issue?
