sorry – I was wrong about 80+ people – it was more like 40 people whom Watson replaced.

See the New York Times story today about how IBM Watson has automated the compilation of daily highlights from the U.S. Open tennis tournament. What used to take 80+ people now takes IBM Watson, and 2 people.

The computer “reads” crowd noise, player gestures, the score during which a shot occurs, and comes up with a list of highlights which tests very very well, compared to the old product.

Just thought I’d try to cheer everybody up.

    Sounds good. Thanks Todd.

Like you, I haven’t used minus green for awhile, but I have a lot of interviews coming up to shoot and key, and for efficiency’s sake, I want to give myself every “edge” I can. (Groans, heard from here.)

[Chris De La Fuente] “Bonus problem: Do you know of a solution for a color seamless that I could get wet/greasy and just wipe off. “

A big sheet of laminate (e.g. Formica) can be bent to create a “cove” instead of a hard corner.

Sorry – I was referring to normal b-roll, not extraordinary one-of-a-kind documentation.

June 28, 2017 at 2:20 pm in reply to: How do you label your drone shots?

Good labels would be very helpful, not only in cataloging shots but also in directing the path of the drone. With limited flight time good pre-visualization will be valuable. OTOH… improvisation is probably incredibly cool too!

The drone manufacturers have created programs (Journey, Orbit Me, Point of Interest) for various moves, but video directors will need more, and more specific, terms.

    It’s a whole ‘nother ballgame.

[Peter Chamberlain] “With v14 you can edit audio at sample level”

That is fantastic. Is that in the Edit pane or do you have to be in Fairlight World?

Has Resolve enabled sub-frame audio editing in either 12.5.6 or 14.x? I had trouble editing out “ums” and “uhs” from some interviews in Resolve 12 — had to go back to FCP7.

    Thanks.

May 16, 2017 at 8:15 pm in reply to: Tripod Tilting Problem

Your tripod head is not level. The head itself is probably tilted up, but you are using the “tilt” feature of the head to bring it down. When you are pointing straight ahead, it looks level. But it isn’t.

If the head doesn’t have one, you should buy a little round level and attach it to the head.

    Good luck.
