    you can also use the Convert Vertext tool (one of the pen tools) and when you have your layer selected select all the position keyframes, and click on one of the keyframes in your composition window. if you zoom into your motion path you can sometimes see how due to interpolation, your path is going crazy. killing the curves with the CV tool is a fast way to solve it.

    you can also use the Timewarp filter which will allow you to set keyframes based on source frame or speed. personally i feel that being competent with curves in your graph editor is critical, and ultimately more flexible. but for a quick solution sometimes using the speed option of your timewarp filter is the right choice.

    I too am having this issue…. i have a gigantic project with 1 missing effect. i dont need the effect anymore but cant figure out a way to quickly find the effect and remove it so we dont have to deal with the dialog box every time the project opens.

    is there a script?
