Thanks for the replies everyone. I would also like to just own the program and keep it forever without having to constantly pay for updates, but I guess that’s not really possible!

Thanks guys. I know this is off topic, but what are your thoughts on Avid? Do you prefer it over all the others? And is it worth it to buy the program instead of paying for for it on a monthly or yearly basis?

I trashed my preferences and that didn’t work. However, I deleted that particular font and downloaded it from a different website and it worked! So the problem was the font itself!

I don’t see what I’m typing in the controls tab in the viewer. The cursor moves along like I’m typing invisible letters.

When I click the video tab in the browser I can see the text. I can see it in the canvas too. It’s just that I can’t see it when I’m typing. This only happens with an installed font.

I noticed a problem with the font controls in FCP 7 in Yosemite. I installed the font “Bank Gothic Medium” in my font book and it shows up in my FCP 7 fonts, but when I type in the Controls tab, I don’t see the text. It shows up in the video tab, but I can’t see what I’m typing! Anyone know how to fix this?

Thanks for the info Walter! I have a mid-2015 retina MacBook Pro with 512 GB of flash storage. Do you know how long that computer’s hard drive can last in terms of moving large amounts of data on and off it?

Thanks Christopher. I didn’t buy an older mac just to get Yosemite though. I bought the most recent retina MacBook Pro from Best Buy (at least they told me it was the most recent, and checking online I see it’s from mid 2015) and it came with Yosemite. I was just wondering if there’s any advantage or disadvantage to upgrading to El Capitan if I want to use FCP 7.

Hey David, if someone constantly downloads and deletes movies on their SSD boot drive, will this eventually ruin the drive’s performance? Or is it only when you transfer large media files back and forth from the boot drive and an external?
