Thank you… I read about this card in another post on here… but when I went to apples website, I found this link https://support.apple.com/kb/TS3891 which reads:

You may notice display anomalies or issues playing back video or other HDCP-encoded content when you use an ATI Radeon HD 5770 video card in Mac Pro computers released before the Mac Pro (Mid 2010).

My computer is from 2008/09. I’d prefer to stay away from any card that has reported compatibility issues… I’m not a tech guy in any form or fashion and need something that’s going to work out-of-the-box. Thanks for contributing your knowledge!

Also wondering what you guys are experiencing with media distribution these days. Everyone in this market is using MPEG-2 Program… and from what I can tell by the little research I have done, MPEG-2 Program seems to be a Broadcast Standard nowadays. If this is the case, it seems that FCP would want to streamline this process for its users. The Chief at this particular station says AVID has an internal default MPEG-2 export setting that can down convert 1080i to 720p. If this is true, I feel like I am just missing something simple here. FCP wants me to pay $1000 bucks for an outside piece of software to convert media to a broadcast standard file?

Thank you, Shane. Wow… looks like a $1000 to make this happen with that software. Regular Episode 6 ($495) says it does mpeg 2 as well, but neither of them address the mpeg 2 program file. I have flip for mac pro hd, and toast titanium. Neither of these have a setting somewhere that I have overlooked, right? Just want to address every possible option before shelling the bucks.

Again, thank you for your time.

Thanks for sharing! Too many others are happy with the results, so it must be a simple step that we’re missing. But the time researching the issue has cost us far too much $ to continue. Gotta cut bait. We use Toast10 for archiving to Blue Ray… so, we tried a burn using Toasts highest settings for HD to SD DVD-R, and the results are as good if not better than all of the attempts with Compressor. And best of all, it took less than 45 minutes to burn a 28:30 show! So, we’ll be Toasting our DVDs from now on.

That was very cool of ya. Appreciate the support! You have a great website, btw.

I tried using the full rez export we created, but after loading it in Compressor and changing all the setting to “Better, we clicked submit and it just sat there. Status bar never changed. Has said “Unknown Time Remaining” for about 35 minutes now. I’m at a loss… Can’t believe burning a quality DVD is this tough for us. Again, appreciate the support.

Thanks for the info. Yes. We were exporting straight from FCP to Compressor; that’s what we were told to do, I think. All of this is a bit confusing. Sorry! Will try the export again using a full rez self contained file.

    Thanks!

Compressor Freezing? Please see the link below for some troubleshooting steps.

    https://support.apple.com/kb/TS1888?viewlocale=en_US

When exporting from 1080i 60 to SD DVD-R 16X9, we have found that it is nearly impossible to put all of the settings on “Best” as suggested. Our edit system would have to be 100% dedicated to the export for more than 24hours. We were never able to actually complete an export; Compressor froze after on two different attempts after 13 hours chugging. We changed the all the settings to “Better” and it’s working, but still not providing a quality DVD. There is very noticeable aliasing (right term?) on movement, and the detail (sharpness) of the original footage is reduced by at least 60%. We’re cutting the final HD sequences into new SD sequences using the settings in the pic below, and then exporting to Compressor. Probably not the right way to go about this at all, but it seems to be providing the best end product. Please post thoughts/ideas/solutions.

    Have a great day!

Thanks again! Here’s the the update:

We started the export via Compressor using the setting above at 1:55:32 – left the office – returned at 6:20pm – says it has 73:42:02 remaining. Something is def wrong here. FCP and Compressor are the only two apps running. Any ideas? I’m to the point to where I think I am going to donate a dedicated BETASP deck to the stations. This is madness.

Michael Sacci… I have read all kinds of posts on this site all day from you man. You’re one helpful and patient professional. Big thanks to you.

    Again… thank you!

Can you please confirm? To achieve the 16X9 SD DVD as we noted above, are you suggesting that we use these steps/settings:

From FCP, choose: Export > Send to Compressor

    Once in Compressor, choose:
    DVD: Best Quality 90 Minutes?
*This setting states this is for a DVD-5. Is this different than a DVD-R?
I’m trying to attach two pics of the settings… this is new to me.

    Still confused on:
Some of the same setting options are in multiple places in Inspector… why the redundancy? And the DVDSP manual strongly suggest using Progressive, not “same as source” or “upper” despite my source is upper field.

    Thanks so much guys!
