The Sennheiser is seriously the best IMHO and when I went through this I got unanimous advise to get the sennheiser. I have had great performance and could not be happier. I got the system with a LAV and a mic plug transmitter. You can use the mic plug transmitter for hand held mics, mixing console outputs as well as in the end of a boom pole to make it a wireless boom pole. The reciever runs on 2 aa batteries and fits in the hot shoe of your camera. I haven’t had to change the batteries yet and have been using it on my main camera a lot. Battery life in the transmitter and receiver is excellent and the construction, frequency selection, layout of controls, size, etc. are excellent. These things were really engineered well and are a great piece of gear. I would have paid $1000.00 for these and still would have been happy.

Sorry for blathering on about these but I am truly impressed.

I believe that the Sennheiser is a really great piece of gear.
I have purchased 2 of the G2 100 series for approx $500.00 each and they are worth a lot more than that.

I would recommend them all day long.

Well just a note, I have edited several full lenght documentaries with lots of keying and layering of the last couple of years without any drive related problems. Perhaps the issues arise when people mix the chip sets in there drive enclosures. My earlier experience with audio post production offer the advise to always use Oxford 911 chipset enclosures for my drive and I have never mixed them with any others.

I have never tried this with a G5 though and I’m sure I have heard several stories about problems with the firewire chips on some models.

I have purshased a new JVC GY-HD100U camera and in the specs for data throughput it states that DV is 25bps and JVC’s HDV is around 17bps…
    I found that interesting.

Unfortunatly I cannot use all of my Logic Pro Plug-ins in Final Cut as there are great mastering plug-ins there and I already paid for them……
So third party AU plugs work…ummm

You can nest audio seperatly from the video?

  • Well as I posted earlier I have to edit some footage in HDV for this project.

Oh well I’ll figure out how to avoid using 5.x
