Thanks for your post, it was the “right thing” at the “right time”!!
I’ve tried many of the above suggestions, but the “Silver Bullet” was setting the burn speed to lower rates. Life is good, just like you said, thanks.

Sorry about the “confusion factor” John. True it’s taking me awhile just to get me brain wrapped around what I’m trying to convey as the
problem, so lets try this one more time….Hope this gives a presise
    explanation of whats going on.
    Sony Vegas Pro 8
New problem now when trying to capture video from a camcorder (Canon Vixia HV30) to Sony Vegas eight. Never really had a problem with this till now.
Here’s the scenario, opened capture application and in the window “preview is turned off”now displayed on capture screen.
Video capture now does not detect my camcorder, also when I click on the video tab I used to have two choices for capture #1 “Hauppauge Win TV418 video capture”, and #2 “Microsoft DV and VCR”.
I always use the #2 setting “Microsoft DV and VCR” and capture with no problem.
Now things have changed…… I don’t get the “Microsoft DV and VCR” option at all on the video tab!!, so I tried clicking on the only available option left “Hauppauge Win TV 418 video capture” I now get the error message… Stating
The device “Hauppauge Win TV 418 Video Capture” could not be opened. Please make sure that it is turned on and is not being used by another application or user.
I went to the help section of Vegas in troubleshooting I saw that it said to ensure your camera is selected on the video menu and also ensure “smart preview video” or “always preview” is selected on the options menu. For the life of me I can’t find these options. I am assuming that the “options”they are talking about are in the Sony video capture window?? I have clicked on this “option” and cannot find a place to select “ensure smart preview or always preview”!! Am I looking in the right place??How would I restore the
“Microsoft DV and VCR”settings once again ??
We have spent over six hours trying to rectify this, no luck. We have a memorial project we’re trying to complete by the end of the week,.and time is of the essence, appreciate your input to this problem.
    Thanks for your comments.

John I have been capturing over FireWire for years with Sony Vegas Pro eight, with no problem.
This is why I am so “frustrated’ that this has developed for no apparent reason. When I open the capture application I notice that it says “preview is turned off” and I can’t get it to recognize my camcorder for capturing. I looked all over the place to locate the “Ensure Smart preview video or always preview video” preference in
“Options” I can’t find these at all!! Can you give me some step-by-step directions where to find these??
We are a bit frustrated…. Thanks

Yes John, I thought my PC would be okay for HDV, but it doesn’t hurt to ask. One last question though, will I have to get a full version of Windows 7 home premium 64-bit, or can I just do an upgrade from Vista home premium?

Thanks Steve for your response, for the moment we are shooting with a Canon Vixia HV 30, which would be HDV. If possible we would like to keep this PC set up for a while because of cost reasons.
If you have any cost-effective PC suggestions let us know,Look forward to your response, thanks.

Thanks John, I was hoping “that” wasnt the answer..however, is it a possibility to compress the audio files, then add those to a data disk? I understand that the track markers wouldn’t work in this
set up correct? And if its a data disk it would only play on a PC.
I guess I’m just trying to find a way to limit the amount of CD
masters.Even its another format. Any other suggestions would be welcomed.
    Thank You.
