Expressions are mostly good for making things move in reaction to other things. But when it comes to building a text-heavy template, there’s no substitute for good old-fashioned rolling up your sleeves and getting to it.
Perhaps we’d be better able to help if you gave some more specific details as to what you’re trying to accomplish.

…reshoot it, and drop a droplet of water on it? This is the best solution. By far.
Shoot a droplet of water falling onto a greenscreen, and do your best to key out all but the highlights/shadows created by the drop?
Get a 3D animator to animate the fluid simulation for you?

April 10, 2019 at 4:27 pm in reply to: Advice on shooting light trails with a Sony PXW Z150The only change would be that it’s 25 seconds at 1 fps to make one second of video. You’ll do fine! Your best bet is to shoot some test footage, which is as easy as pointing your camera outside your window. With such a slow shutter, you’ll need to make adjustments to your aperture and iso/gain settings to make for a correct exposure, but that’s no different than any other shooting situation. Shoot a test tonight, and let us know how it goes!

April 9, 2019 at 4:20 pm in reply to: Trying to explode windows using shatter.. but having issuesHere, watch this Total Training video on Shatter: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=dDYv5UjbJbA
This will show you how to use the Corner Pin camera to place a texture over the windows to have them break on the correct plane with your building.
Crucially, I am about 99% sure that you cannot use masks to make one instance of the effect work for all three windows. You will need to create three separate instances of the Shatter effect, one for each window.

April 8, 2019 at 4:30 pm in reply to: Advice on shooting light trails with a Sony PXW Z150Set up your S&Q mode to shoot at 1 or 2 frames per second, and have a shutter speed that matches: for 1 fps, you should have a 1 second or 1/2 second shutter. This camera won’t let you shoot at slower framerates (and likely the shutter speed will be maxed at 1 second), but this should yield a pretty good timelapse/light trail effect. Remember that you’ll need to shoot 24 seconds of 1 fps to get 1 second of final footage.

Maybe I’m not being clear: I’m talking about creating a grid of pills that you overlay on your existing EQ animation. That way the “lights” light up the way you want it to, and the mask with pill-shaped holes shapes it the way you want.
There’s some manual work involved–you will have to build the pill-shaped mask overlay to match your existing comp– but I think it’s the simplest way to get the result you want.
-
I’m saying create a grid of masks that are in the pill shape you want. You can create them using a shape layer, which you can then apply as a track matte.
-
Can’t you just create a mask overlay? You could create one shape in the size you want, duplicate it across the bottom, then build a grid all the way up.

April 2, 2019 at 4:12 pm in reply to: Trying to get a particle stream to follow a car…Im having more trouble than I expected.I think a 3D camera track is going to work better for this application; this will get you the camera-to-world-movement you need to get the particles to react right. Track in a solid to the ground plane, and apply a grid effect for reference. Then you can use keyframe animation to place your particle producer: the car will basically follow a straight path in space, so you can pretty easily keyframe it with just a few keyframes as long as you have a strong reference for the ground plane. Once you’ve got that, you can remove the grid.
