I’ve masked out three windows on a big building and trying to apply the shatter effect so i can simulate them smashing, but it covers the entire frame, when i want it to just cover the parts i’ve masked.

Try precomping the layer with masks inside the precomp, the effect outside it.

Here, watch this Total Training video on Shatter: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=dDYv5UjbJbA

This will show you how to use the Corner Pin camera to place a texture over the windows to have them break on the correct plane with your building.

Crucially, I am about 99% sure that you cannot use masks to make one instance of the effect work for all three windows. You will need to create three separate instances of the Shatter effect, one for each window.
