yes, I’ve experimented with all the possible modes and combinations. None of them work. This cam will output 1080p or 1080i from the HDMI port. In addition, the record format is selectable 1080p or 1080i. None of the combinations work. The video signal is, simply, not recognized.
As a side note, I can feed the signal to my Nanoflash HDMI port…then feed a signal from my Nanoflash HDMI output port to the Hyperdeck, and the Hyperdeck WILL recognize the signal.

may I suggest:
1-you need to be exporting with 601/709. exporting from Media Composer in RGB mode will remap the output to the wrong values(lower density)
2-you need to check the import settings on your mastering application.
3-you need to check your export settings on your mastering application. -

I managed to get a hold of an Asus U3S6 controller board. I installed it into the second PCIe x16 slot on my Intel DX48BT2 motherboard. After booting up and installing the lastest Renasas drivers, I am able to successfully operate the BMD Pocket Ultrascope. This is VERY encouraging.If I may, I’d like to ask for a future enhancement. Currently, the display fires up on my primary display. Would it be possible to allow me to select either my primary, or my secondary display?

It isn’t a gamma problem, despite the rather popular beleif that it is. In reality, the situation is that the Quicktime codec wrapper is designed for web display. Computer monitors, which are commonly used for web display, use full range RGB. In contrast, broadcast television monitors use a reduced range RGB, commonly called Rec 601/709.
So, what does this mean in practical applications? This means that you have to use the color correction tools in Media Composer to be sure your timeline displays FULL RANGE RGB in the Media Composer waveform monitor. Once you’ve expanded the display( by using the levels or color wheel “master” to IRE 0-255, you can then export to QTRef using the full RGB option. When importing to other applications via QTref files, this will ensure your imports don’t get remapped to Rec601/709 values that result in a washed out looking image.

I take responsibility for the risk. I never said I didn’t. However, in all fairness, BMD is less than forthcoming in their advertising for this product. My only motivation for even starting this post is to publicly warn other potential buyers that it is $600 wasted. If you insist on slamming me for that, then I have nothing more to add.

Well, I’m sure you never took a calculated risk, doode. BMD listed the HP Envy15 as an approved laptop, then retracted their claims. Somewwhat misleading, this. The HP8740 uses the same NEC chipset, so, the gamble was a reasonable one.
BMD has a huge advertising campaign for these devices. Nowhere do the warn potential buyers of the very limited hosts for their product, until you look at the product manual.
The fundamental issue is that USB3 is an emerging technology. Given enough time, implementation will catch up with applications. It’s still misleading to advertise this product as USB3 compatible without also publicly posting a diisclaimer.
My experience with BMD is less than satisfactory, now and in the past. I have no qualms or misgivings with posting my displeasure.
Regardless, your post simply shows your own poor judgment in posting.
