It records to NTSC (CCIR601?)on the DV tape. By definition, this format is 30 fps(actually 29.97 fps). In order to take the native 24fps recorded by the image sensor, and turn it into 30fps, the in-camera software adds extra frames in either the 2-3 or 2-3-3-2 pulldown format.
Vegas is smart enough to detect 24fps that has been converted to 30 fps; and, will remove the extra frames if you have the right switches slected in “preferences”, returning your captured video to the original 24fps.

whether a file is encoded as upper field first or lower field first, the way software knows which is set by a data bit in the AVI header. if the bit is set incorrectly, obviously application software will read the wrong value. there is some software available that allows you to reset the data bit in the header.

If you open an AVI file in the Vegas Media Pool, and look at the detailed view, it will tell you whether the file is upper or lower field first.

Never mind….I fixed it by uninstalling AND deleting the Excalibur folder from the script menu before re-installing 4.1

I’ve uninstalled Excaliber 4.0 and installed 4.1. I can’t get 4.1 to start up. I keep getting the following error:

Warning: an error occurred during the execution of script …..Vegas 6.0Script MenuExcaliber4VegasUtils.dll

    Microsoft.VSA.VsaException:AssemblyExpected(0x80133004):…Vegas6.0Script MenuExcalibur4VegasUtils.dll
