Even removing the Kona card hasn’t helped. When I trash preferences, I’m fine for a while, but then it starts again. I edit for a while, but I get the spinning ball before long (during playback) and I have to wait about a minute before it will start playing back again. Do you think it makes sense to reinstall FCP Studio?

I have a Kona LHe card that I thought might be connected to the problem so I removed it and reseated it and voila! – problem solved. I’m not sure what happened, but I’m back in business. i’ll keep my fingers crossed. Thanks.

I removed my Kona LHe card and the problem is solved. Unless of course I want to use my Kona card! I had a similar problem with the second monitor with this Mac Pro and my Kona card. I had all sorts of performance issues with my second monitor until Kona came out with an update for FCP 7 (I think – it’s all a little hazy). Why I would suddenly be having these new issues is beyond me. I’m going to put the card back in. Maybe reseating it will help. I’ll post after I try it.

I installed the driver from here:
https://www.sony.ca/promedia/drivers.htm
It didn’t make any difference. I still don’t see the thumbnails in XDCAM Transfer and the plug-in in FCP for Log & Transfer doesn’t recognize my cards.
Not sure what I’m doing wrong.
Thanks.

Sorry:
XDCAM EX Log and Transfer Plug-in V1.0 (Mac).
XDCAM Transfer 2.5.1.
I’m running Snow Leopard on a 2 x 2.26 GHZ Quad-Core Intel Xenon.
I’ve upgraded to FCP 7.0.I just didn’t uninstall XDCAM Transfer because I can’t figure out how to.
Thanks.

OK, so I upgraded everything and I still don’t see the thumbnails and Log & Transfer doesn’t recognize my SxS cards. The one thing I didn’t do is uninstall my previous drivers for XDCAM Transfer. Stupid question – how do I do that?
Thanks.

I do that to bring the photograph in, but if I want to have it pause for a few seconds before I send it off again, I need to manually set all the parameters and then hit A and then move the photo. Otherwise, when I hit A and move the photo, it starts moving immediately after it arrives. I can’t find a way to have two separate pairs of keyframes. I’m sure I’m doing something wrong. Does this make sense?
Thanks.

Leo,
Thanks for the tips. I already use most of them, although the right/left philosophy isn’t something I was aware of. As luck would have it, the interview in question was all shot looking left! I’ll keep that from my client, in any case.

Thanks for even more information. I played around with Joe’s blur filters (I already had them, but it didn’t occur to me to use the blur filters). It seems to be like using the Black Pro Mist filter yet you have more control. It definitely helps. I’m wondering if upgrading to the HVX200 with the added image/gamma controls will give me a more pleasing image than the PD150 for the kind of interviews I shoot. The Sony’s tend to be on the cooler side and I’ve had my eye on the DVX100 for some time. Even if I start out shooting with the HDX200 in SD (until the HD workflow becomes more affordable), I can upgrade to a more suitable camera – still using miniDV tapes – and be well situated when the storage/editing situations become more manageable. I’m certainly going to wait until the dust settles before I make any decisions.
Thanks again.
