Part of the problem you’re experiencing could be (according to the “helpful” folks at Apple tech support) the recent firmware updates that have come with ML. The firmware updates could be working some kind of voodoo with FCP 7.0.3. Their suggestion to me was to attempt to install FCP on a Lion partition, but since they don’t support downgrading, I’d be on my own with that.

I got this information back from Panasonic:

The latest firmware version 1.16 brings compatibility with the following Micro 4/3 lenses
that are newly available in the market.
Panasonic recommends you to update prior to use those lenses.

+ Power zoom control becomes available after ver 1.16 applied for the following lenses.
    Panasonic
H-PS14042 [Lumix powered zoom lens] : Power zoom functions after ver1.16 applied
H-PS45175 [Lumix powered zoom lens] : Power zoom functions after ver1.16 applied

+ Controls are finely tuned for the lens characteristic, for smooth operation.

    H-X025 :

When switched on, the camera also fires up the lens (depending upon if you have a lens and mount that can be controlled by the camera), so there is a little noise there.

We use a Lumix DMW-MA1 adapter with our Olympus Zuiko zooms on the AF-100 and it’s rock solid. Never an issue. Heavier lenses, like our 35-100 have to be supported, though.

So taking Sam’s original question one step farther – What if you need to add some HDV and other source material to the mix?

We’re about to start the edit of a TV show project with:

75% of the footage is DVCPRO HD 1080i60
    10% HDV 1080i60 footage
10% of the footage is TBA (getting an existing TV show from the network and we may have some input on the format – will be HD)
5% of the footage including a few other HDV and DVCPRO HD clips shot at 23.98.

Now what would you recommend as our base format? Transcode everything to ProRes 422 or digitize the HDV to DVCPRO HD? And what of the timeline?

    Thanks

    Hey, John:

Thanks again for your great help on The Science of Lance Armstrong. I produced the show and can vouch for everything you said – the interviews looked gorgeous and your tech skills on the Russian Arm shoot were invaluable. Here’s a link to a trailer for the show: https://www.rivetentertainment.com/sola_pages/sola_index.htm

    Thanks again,
    Bill
