I use the Softron play out software in a broadcast control room and it’s great.

I have seen it at various trade shows and the sales people keep saying
“very soon”. But as you say, it’s now been a year and no product has
been released. I REALLY want to try this software. I have written to AJA
about this but their return e-mail has been non committal.

Setting the cost issue aside…we use Kona 3 and Kona 3G cards with
MC 6.0.3.1. It it worth installing 6.5? Or wait until 6.5.1? Since we use
Mac computers, it’s a pain to have to uninstall and then re-install.

It may be too soon to know, unless someone has had a preview copy,
but other than the gatekeeper issue, is there a reason to not install MC6
    on Mountain Lion?

    >go to Lion and wait for Avid to approve Mountain Lion

That is what I am inclined to do…except I have to do this on 25 MC edit stations.
I really don’t want to do this twice.

We would have upgraded to FCS4 and would have loaded FCPX into a few workstations and started playing with it. Instead, we converted 24 edit stations to Avid.

At the SMPTE conference in Hollywood yesterday, I asked the Avid rep if we would see version 6 in December. He said it would probably be sooner than that.

    >Tomorrows production WILL NOT be the same as yesterdays.

Totally agree with that. I just wish Apple had done a dissolve instead of a cut.

    >I guess they’re banking on the teenagers which will probably pay off someday.

That’s what confuses me. Why not have both? Get the new people and bring along
the current users (at least the ones who want to). But why tick off the current users
in hopes of getting the new users?

Not so fast…how about free? Ok, it’s students only, but the price is hard to argue with.
