As was mentioned, you can’t do what you’re trying to do without a Blu-Ray burner, and you cannot author it in DVDSP.

You can use Toast – I also have Adobe Premiere CS4 / Encore on my Mac, which also burns Blu-Ray.

Simply put, you need to follow the whole process of encoding for Blu-Ray, then you need to burn to a conventional DVD with a Blu-Ray burner – and you will need a Blu-Ray dvd player to play your finished product, even though its on standard media.

It does work, but you must realize that you are creating Blu-Ray, not DVD.

December 14, 2009 at 8:27 pm in reply to: iMac video editing setup ?

I have been running first FCP 6, now FCP 7 for 16 months on an Imac – 4GB Ram, and firewire 400 drives, and with a firewire hub.

I was told not to do it this way, but have had little problems except with tape capture -(HDV). When I must capture, I disconnect all but one firewire drive, and then have no problems.

Obviously there are trade-offs using an IMAC, but clients love watching their footage playing on one, should they come in for a working meeting.

Like you, I would love to have a Mac Pro, but, budgets are what they are.

September 2, 2009 at 7:30 pm in reply to: Weddings

I am proud to be a wedding videographer, although I used to feel that other more “serious” video people looked down upon me.

In addition to weddings, I’ve produced for corporations, shot training videos, real estate, trial testimony, seminars, conferences, etc. Most of this work is forgotten by the client, and by myself fairly quickly.

Producing a wedding, on the other hand, preserves what hopefully is one of the best days of someone’s life, and I feel it has more meaning then just about all of the work I mentioned above. It could live for generations, and that, to me is what its all about.

If you’re in this just to make a buck you’re in the wrong place, but I would tell you that if you were in any profession that you hated.

This is probably not what you want to hear, but if it were mine, I wouldn’t consider fixing it – the VX 2000 was a wonderful camera, but its already several years since its been discontinued.

My feeling is that your repair will be expensive, and when all is said and done you’ll have a used camera with technology dating back 7 years.

I would replace it with one of the HDV cameras.

I try not to use credit cards, but on those occasions when I must, PayPal is very convenient.

Like anything else – comparison shop. Hopefully you’ll never have to use your policy, but as you said, some halls require it, and its just another cost of doing business.

You don’t necessarily need to be a member of an association to buy business liability insurance. I’m a WEVA member but don’t use their program.

I have a policy through an independent agent, who also handles my homeowners and other insurance needs. If you already have a relationship with an insurance agent, start there.

From what I understand, wedj.com has a very reasonable program as well.
