You’re right, Aristides. We should never complain about anything for which we paid a lot of money when it doesn’t work. BMD, Adobe et al. are doing us a huge favor just letting us purchase their products. And when they don’t work or are not promptly updated or supported, we should be grateful, if not thrilled. Why, it’s almost like being given a job for which there will be no compensation. “Hey, I gave you a job. You want to be paid, too!? Ungrateful cretin!”

Perhaps like you, I’m happiest when something doesn’t work as advertised. Regarding BMD not promptly supporting CS4, I know now that I (and perhaps Brett, too) was way out of line by believing (and complaining) that BMD should have by now issued a CS4-supporting driver. And you–an astute detector of the obvious–were also right that we should just use CS3 for now. Well, I don’t have CS3. So here I sit like the proverbial monkey with a cocoanut. I await further advice, Aristides.

I and no doubt many others second Brett’s post/questions. Let’s get it in gear BMD.

October 22, 2008 at 6:23 pm in reply to: PremPro2 on Vista 64?

I’ve been running PPro2 on XP-64 for over a year with no problems. Installed Vista Business 64 and it won’t open, that’s why I wonder if it just won’t run on vista 64.

September 25, 2008 at 5:55 pm in reply to: Premiere Pro CS4: 64-Bit?

    Dominic:

On another forum, I was informed CS4 is still a 32-bit app, though it has been “optimized” to work on Vista 64. I still intend to call Adobe to get a full explanation, but haven’t had time.

I’ve haven’t made the move to Vista 32 or 64 bit either and don’t look forward to it (I’m currently running a dual boot sys with XP32 on one side and XP64 on the other. Still using PPro 2, it works quite well on the XP64 side, most of the time.

That Adobe still hasn’t made Premiere Pro 64-bit is very disappointing. No doubt they’re working on it (they’d be crazy not to), but who knows when it might be done. Those of us working in long-form need it desperately. Having to break up shows into 10 minute projects is a complete drag.

I intend call Adobe pre-sales to get a clarification on that. Prem Pro 2 works quite well on XP 64-bit, but not perfectly; certainly a lot better than on XP 32-bit in regards to long-form work.

August 5, 2008 at 2:07 am in reply to: Down Converting MXF files

Vince: Thanks for your response. I won’t be using the HVX200, though it’s a helluva fine little machine. This project will be shot with a Pana 3000 or 3700, full raster 1920 x 1080/23.98PsF. That’s why I need to figure a way to down convert the camera original mxf files. Otherwise, I’ll need a warehouse full of raid arrays to accommodate the footage for the creative edit.

I’ll check out Cineform Prospect HD, which sounds like it might be an option. Though I’ve never used any of their apps, I’ve read quite a lot of good things about them.

  • Believe I used the plastic mount with the tension spring hold-down, but not sure. Will keep that in mind when I remove to re-do the grease. Thanks again for the tip.

  • One thing comes to mind. I used some old paste rather than Zalman’s hi-temp stuff. Thanks for the info.

  • Amazing. Now I’m concerned I might not have applied enough thermal paste when I installed the chip and Zalman setup. My MB, etc. is in a large server case with several 120mm fans blowing/venting in the correct directions. Plus all the equipment is in an air-conditioned room the size of a walk-in closet, usually cold enough to store meat in. Me thinks something must be awry.
