If you don’t have the expensive high end options to do an uprez test but do have Photoshop CS try this: create a DROPLET in CS to automate a series of actions. A typical droplet might be Open-16 bit-1280X720 Bicubic Interpolation-Unsharp Mask- Close. Export an image sequence from FCP (Tiff millions +) into a folder. Drop the folder on to the newly created DROPLET.
It takes Photoshop about a second to process each frame once the folder has been dropped on to the “Droplet” – so a one second sequence of twenty four frames might be all you need. Now you have 24 (high quality) uprezed frames-make quicktime movie, etc… Compare.

Yeah, I thought picking up scenes from the tape to the card might be a little easier on the camera heads than an NLE. ???

  • Build a shrine? Make a movie instead.

Jan implied that the HDX-200 will be able to pick up the slack on a Varicam shoot i.e crash camera, crane, and anywhere else you might not want to risk trashing a couple of Varicams. I don’t expect the quality to be that much less than the V/cam and with a little care and post magic who knows… And the number of unit sales projected (compared to the expensive models) might have a pleasant effect on lens performance. It’s one thing mandating a fixed lens but another altogether an inferior one. Why leave an obvious door open for the competition? OK I’m an optimist.
    Cheers.
