    thanks again josh!

i’ll play around with the settings more, as you suggested. yes i agree, uploading in prores would be awesome. and encoding for the web is always hit and miss for me.

i’m also playing around with the filters. they more likely do more bad than good, but with tweaking, i think its possible to match the prores version.

    thanks josh,

i shot footage with a d90, at 720p. converted to prores using mpegstreamclip. then imported into fcp timeline. I was prompted, “would you like to change sequence settings to match clip”. I selected YES. everything ran smooth as butter.

then i exported a QT reference file. I then imported the QT reference file into squeeze 6 encoder.

Here is a screen shot of my settings. Not sure if this these are the best settings to use for web.

And here are before and after sreenshots

    525_picture24.png.zip

    thanks again!

oh hai! thx for replying D.

I’m importing all my clips as Prores. sequence settings the same, hd 720, square pix,

I’m running a similar mac to yours: MacBook 2.4 GHz, Intel Core 2 Duo 2 GB ram, Mac OS X 10.5.7 (except, its not a pro, and therefore no advanced graphics card)

i thought that may have been the problem. But it does definitely look like a gamma issue.

But I did try this, and was successful. I exported the prores file from fcp, using animation codec. the result was lossless.

however, i still am having difficulty exportingn to h.264 without losing quality. i have managed using the h.264x codec with some success, but its very unpredictable.

for the most part, its hit and miss for me. looking to get an imac soon, maybe the graphics card is failing me??

oops..i still don’t know how to do it, but i’m trying something that may work. when i change the compressor settings, the video in the canvas changes..didn’t catch that earlier. will give it a shot!

thx again stephen, infact i had a very similar idea. and i actually tried to do it, but after the second frame, i realized that it was going to be a very long term project. i am definitely up for it, but first i want to make a 2 minute video that is worth the hassle.

thx for the link… infact i am going to base my work exactly from it. cheers 🙂

here is another lame attempt at a ‘mimic’.. no where near the same, but i guess that is the difference between ‘filters’ and actually rotoscoping 🙂

    thx chris and stephen 🙂

i appreciate you linking those sites, i will definitely give the free one a try, but the other program also is tempting!

actually, today i took a 5 second footage of me brushing my teeth. i kept if at 5 seconds because i really really want to have a go at the ‘scanner darkly’ type processing. and from what i have read, i can imagine how long it would take!!

so i started with my first frame, and half way through my second i realized i have a life, and that this is just not possible!

but i didn’t trash the 5 second clip. i kept on editing like crazy, i used a gazzilion filters in photoshoped to create an action that i used to batch process images that were spliced from the video file from quicktime. here are the results, i think i am getting closer to a scanner darkly mimic (but this one is in black and white unfortunately – that is the only catch 🙁

here is the link for that video…
