Just to not brighten up my life, I did the conversion from $4.18 per US Gallon (top price, apparently) to GBP per litre, and I get £0.70 per litre. Price here is £1.35 per litre – just over $8.00 per US gallon. Still, I suppose we do get the National Health.

I hadn’t really looked at this before, because I wasn’t in love with PPro, but I just checked out what you get in the creative production suite –

I did my standard first look tests, remembered from BBC days….

Load a clip (no problem)
Play in source window (oh look, they’re the wrong way round, never mind) – works fine.
Can’t work out how to move the clip to the sequence window, so drop on track. Works ok.
Insert edit from new clip. Mark in and out, good. Mark in on sequence, good. Now, how to insert…..can’t work it out, so go to help file. Help file very unhelpful. Back to application, really can’t work it out. It’s late, give up.

We used to do this stuff at IBC and NAB on as many stands as possible. If the first tests went well, we moved on to “now I’d like to extend just the audio”. That was “in the next release”, but it was the late 90s.

Obviously I’m no good at embracing change etc. As I said somewhere else, I like the accelerator (gas) pedal on the right.

Just can’t resist showing off – I’ve made a few Dr Who trails, and I worked as a cameraman on a number of series from Troughton to Baker. I put Lis Sladen in the arms of the giant robot.

At some point someone left a Dalek in the scene dock for months. We used to wander arounf in it.

Making a PC these days is a lot like Lego, and nearly as easy. Doesn’t matter which operating system you load it with – W7, OSX, Ubuntu, whatever – the build is the same. And when it starts for the first time, it’s a very satisfying moment.
