  • Thanks Dan.

I guess the upshot of this is that I will need to re-render, re-output and resuply the material. No possibility that a broadcast tech would be able to fix it the way it has been supplied?

    Thanks for the input guys,

Looks like its a software/hardware issue. The Problem is not evident on another machine.

    Cheers

    thanks for your reply Steve.

I’ve checked the material options to ensure accept lights is checked, 3d layer settings and lighting position, intensity and different light types and everything is right. If I view the same composition and switch to 8bpc mode everything is visible.
If I open a new project in 16bpc, create a new comp with a 3d solid and add a light the solid is no longer visible. If I switch back to 8bpc its visible – so Im guessing its some kind of a setting somewhere.

    Any other ideas??

Unless you really want to go through the 3d app pipeline I would suggest that Zaxwerks 3d invigorator would do precisely the job for you – bonuses are you can create your own 3d objects from standard primitives or extruded shapes from illustrator paths – very handy for logos and it integrates well with AEs own camera system – AND you get to do everything within ae.
You can also import other 3d models like dxf or even 3ds I think. Definately worth a look at.

If you were really worried (which you probably shouldn’t be), or simply wanted to free up resources so you don’t have to have your camera sitting on your desk all day Canopus make a box that converts firewire to standard composite outputs in a similar way to a camera. I think that this one here does it (might want to have a close look to check it has all the functionality you want – they have a few different models)

I think they are relatively pricey though. Not sure in USD but in Aussie dollars they used to be sitting around $300. The major reason why I have my camera sitting in front of me right now.
