Barry, I didn’t realize you could copy the contents folder back onto the P2 cards. While it is limiting, it would be one way of getting all the info onto Axio without file conversion.

You can stream the footage into the Axio via firewire from the camera. That’s not a problem. I’ve done it and it works fine, looks great! But, the problem arises when you’ve shot multiple P2 cards, and download the cards to a hard drive. Those files on the hard drive don’t stream into the Axio… Only from the camera.

My current workaround is to go thru FCP, use the .mov files into Axio. Until NAB I THINK that’s the only way to do it… get it out of the MXF wrapper and into a file fomat recognized by Axio.

The trouble with that is Axio doesn’t recognize the mxf wrapper the video files comes in. So, transferring the P2 files from a hard drive (folders labeled ‘contents’) puts the files on the Axio system but the Axio won’t be able to open ’em. You’ve got to unwrap them first… (as far as I know).

I can’t argue with that. I’ve used FCP for 2 + years and it’s got many great features. It doesn’t have the real time processing power that Axio has. I’ve only owned it 2 weeks and can’t be happier with the speed of the system.

HOWEVER, I can’t wait for Matrox to release version ? for P2 support!

Well, I don’t have Canopus. I do have Axio. I know I can convert, that’s what I’m doing now thru FCP/Quicktime. Just wondering if I’m missing something or I’ll have to wait ’til Matrox supports P2…
    Thanks

I transferred from the camera direct to my laptop via firewire. Clip properites are listed on the each thumbnail clip in the camera… That’s how I discovered I had my setup different in FCP from how I had captured the clips.

I had that same message, that clips were incomplete or corrupt. Then I looked at clip properties and changed my settings in FCP to match the clip’s capture rate, frame rate, etc. and everything imported without a problem. That would be the first thing I would check.
