It sounds a bit dumb but my recent solution to a similar problem was using the QT Conversion export as opposed to the QT Movie export- exact same settings.
The QT Movie (self contained or not) seems to package the file with the FCP icon which had similar issues (white screen/audio only) when imported into a PC based Avid MC.
Using the standard QT conversion settings gives you the standard QT icon and was importable on a PC…

A bit of PC vs MAC anti-competitiveness perhaps?

    Thanks Andy

I do usually notch things like this up to operator error, but I have recently started working in new broadcast environment where they have recently taken to Final Cut- and in my 8 or so years of using various incarnations of FCP I have never seen some of the wierd and wonderful errors and glitches that occur on a daily basis here.

My main concern here was the way that FCP seems to get ‘tired’ after a few outputs- eg. Play out 1hr program, inserted on pre-striped tape fine- discover 3 or 4 issues on playout- change no settings and successfully re-lay 3 of the 4 fixups- on 4th attempt muting occurs…
I can’t even think of an easy way I would do that intentionally, let alone accidently!

I am back in today so I will talk to my superiors, but they did an entire system upgrade a week or two ago…

I am still new to the Cow and it’s communal intelligence, so I thank you kindly for your advice.

    Cheers

I have had an interestingly similar problem in the past week or so, having already come across the need to remove transitions on insert edits- another somewhat more destructive glitch has presented itself.

Using pretty much newest software (work machines, not 100% sure) with a Kona 3 outputtung to Digi Beta DNW? 500 from FCP6.4- every now and then the insert kicks in as usual but for some reason it begins muting the audio of the present clip, but will return to normal on the next new clip on the timeline. Awesome huh?

This seems completely random and occurs even on vision only inserts, and is often fixed by a restart- the other day after three failed restarts I tried using razors edits and forced black holes either side of my insert… It worked fine and dandy.
Call me crazy but this seems a pretty unprofessional work around, I too would love to hear some more info on FCP insert edit problems.

    Cheers
