February 25, 2014 at 1:05 am in reply to: Premiere has to re-render every time I close and reopen a project?Sorry to update everyone again, but Premiere is still giving me this problem. I’ve been editing off this drive for awhile now, without issue, so I don’t understand why this would be happening.
FYI, I am using many Dynamically linked Comps with After Effects in my Premiere timeline. AE was giving me this message a few weeks ago that “the disk cache is full” or something along those lines, so I emptied it, though it is currently set to “69 GB” though I’m not sure how AE came to that rather huge number.
Does anyone think some of the problems may lie in AE and the Dynamic link?

February 22, 2014 at 2:44 am in reply to: Premiere has to re-render every time I close and reopen a project?Hey folks, thanks for answering.
The scratch disk is the “same as project,” and I’m editing off an external drive on a Macbook Pro Retina, 2.8Ghz Intel Core i7.
Today, I opened the project and it seems like it has kept its render files. This is truly bizarre. Any theories?

Thanks Tero––yes, for some odd reason the GoPro has a “2.7k Cine” which is 17:9, not 16:9, which I find odd.

September 19, 2013 at 3:11 am in reply to: Best AE CS6 export settings for an Avid Project?Hi John, thank you for your reply!
Is there any quality loss going out of Avid, into AE, and then back, or are these DNxHD codecs lossless?
Also, while I have your attention, haha––I started by importing my latest project h264 files through AMA––if I wanted to transcode them at the highest possible quality, what would be the best format? I keep asking this question and getting different answers.

September 17, 2013 at 2:01 am in reply to: Editing AMA footage with Quicktime Reference to After Effects? Also Shane, how does frame rate come into choosing between 175 and 220? I did shoot at 24fps, which would mean you’d suggest 175.

September 16, 2013 at 6:41 pm in reply to: Editing AMA footage with Quicktime Reference to After Effects?Hmm, one of my Avid friends who is a freelance editor said that she used Quicktime refs with AE….any reason not to go this route? It seems like a popular option.
And I don’t think Automatic Duck works with AE cs6––it seems like it has been integrated into the program and called ProImport which seems to have some issues noted here:

September 13, 2013 at 9:10 pm in reply to: Affordable External Drive for Avid Work?Hi Shane,
Your response is pure gold! So much info, thank you!
I primarily am producing content for the web, however, as a student looking to break into the industry upon graduation, I want to be able to say that I am proficient in Final Cut Pro, Premiere Pro, and Avid Media Composer, and be able to back it up.
As for which movies I like, hahaha! I actually enjoyed Avatar and Hurt Locker both! For different reasons, of course.
