Boy it’d be handy if it could do automatic QC reports like the Tektronix does…. maybe next year?

Lets face it… people who do their homework get to take advantage of the ‘cheaper’ solutions eg MxM MxR etc – those ‘smart’ people are us!

But for every ‘smart’ person there has gotta be at least 10 ‘not-so-smart’ people who will go and buy those overpriced Sony SxS solutions; thats what Sony rely on. Let a few slip thru the loop but who cares, a 10:1 ratio will still make them a profit.

I know at least 5 owner/operators of ex1/ex3 camera’s here in Sydney who had no idea of a cheaper SxS solution. I use the word ‘had’ as I have now wised them up. And I have also made a bit of money selling them some old Fuginon zoom demand units to go with their camera’s as well!

  • I also have ‘time:calc’ which is good. There is another called ‘TC Calculator’ but it doesn’t do multiply/divide.

April 16, 2009 at 12:05 am in reply to: SONY HDV deck-HVR M 15U deck

As Wayne said above and just to clarify… Firewire for DV is different to Firewire of HDV in so much as if you set up to capture HDV in FCP it is looking for a HDV signal. If the 15U deck is switched to ‘downconvert’ (in iLink menu setting) it is essentially converting the HDV to DV and outputting it to the Firewire port as DV – so FCP will not see it if it is looking for HDV.

A quick check is to go to the ‘about this mac – more info’ and look at all the devices that it finds. The deck will show up in the ‘firewire’ section regardless of what the iLink setting is. This will also absolutely prove the firewire deck connection to the Mac.

Lets hope those lasers will be blue

If you go over to the Adobe forums you will see Premiere CS4 is about to release a major dot version with plenty of fixes. That usually happens about the same time Apple do some proapps updates.

Its the competition between software rivals that keeps us reaping the benefits and any mention of hope with buggy software is all I am looking for. Rumours are rumours but it sure beats the deathly silence we always get from these major software companies.

[Bob Zelin] “So does this mean that FCP 7 won’t output to a VTR ?”

So the age of digital delivery is upon us – no choice! Anyone wanna buy some cheap HDCAM decks?
