  • Thanks Yair, I updated to 2015 and tried this…these are the settings I used. The ensuing file was 58:45… Does this function tend to not work very well? Thanks

  • I imported in FCP, and am getting the same result — the clip is a few seconds shorter. I have tried several clips, and it seems like every clip I import is a different length in Premiere (and FCP) than it is when I hit apple-i on my desktop to see the length.

Is it possible that this is always the case (clips change length when imported into projects) and I just never noticed? And if so…do I have to tell this client it’s impossible for me to send them a clip that’s the same length as the last one I sent them? Thanks again.

  • Good to know…with this clip both drop frame and non drop frame are greyed out. About to pull this baby into FCP 7 and see if I can get any satisfaction there. Thanks!

  • BTW — I have tried several other files that are longer than about 20 mins and they all lose a few seconds when imported into my project. Thank you .

  • Thanks, Joe — can you tell me how I check this? Thanks again.

  • I have premiere pro 2014. This would be a nice option, though. Still might not end up in sync with the file they have, though. Thanks.

  • Thanks…do you mean I can change the frame rate when I import the file into my project? How is that done?

Or to change the frame rate of the sequence? I don’t see a 23.00 fps option in the sequence settings. Please see screen grab below.

Or do you mean when I export the sequence? I don’t see a way to set it to 23.00 there either.

It’s so strange that a file that says it’s 58:42 outside the project reads as 58:39 inside the project. Can anyone explain this? I feel like the problem starts here.

And here’s another odd thing: the file in my project, which says it’s 23.976 fps, when put into a timeline, which also has the setting of 23.976, is only 58:35:13 long.

Thanks for any help — I’m getting desperate!

  • Thanks, Joe.

The client sent me specs for the file they are using. The frame rate is listed at 23 frames/second (see first screen grab, please).

The second screen grab, which lists the file length as 58:42, is off my own computer. It does not show frame rate, but when I import into Premiere, it says the frame rate is 23.98. I have also pulled it straight onto a timeline, and selected “change sequence to match clip settings” and it still comes in at 2-4 seconds shorter than the 58:42 listed on the file info. This makes me think it’s not the frame rate.

Thanks again for any help solving this mystery.

  • It turns out there was something wrong with the lens — am renting a new one for the shoot and hopefully the other won’t be too expensive to fix…
