Try deleting your preference files. Start-up AE with the CTRL or Shift key down (I always forget) and a dialog box will come up asking if you want to trash the preferences.

It’s been an exciting year for the COW and for me personally – with my first son being born in october… yes, that’s probably why I haven’t been participating as much as I’d have liked to, but you’re in good hands anyway :-).
But it’s been great fun, both online and offline. I wish everyone good health, and possibly a couple of fun gigs for 2006!

I’m from PAL territory, so by no means am I an expert on the intricacies of NTSC and pull-down.
But from what I know you have two viable options. Well, three.
1. See if you can get a new source clip that at least isn’t compressed to MPEG…
and:
2. Convert the mpeg to interlaced 29,97 fps by interpreting it aS 23,9something fps scaling up to an NTSC comp size and adding pulldown on export. Then import into your project.
or:
3. Do the entire project in 24p and add pulldown to 29,97 interlaced in the end…
Hopefully someone with more NTSC knowledge will step in…

i agree with trey. what’s wrong with shooting 16:9?”Nothing… except when you know you’ll end up on a 4:3 or in this case even square image, there’s no point wasting the resolution on a wide image, that would be cropped to a square.

If your camera is locked off (static on a tripod), and you have a clean plate of the background, you could try Difference Matte. You feed the effect with the clean background image, and it will create the matte by calculating the difference between the clean background and the shot.
But I find it’s very vulnerable to noise, and even more so when using DV.

Yes… that’s the whole point.. I’m trying to get the little bugger to do the rotoscoping for me. At two months he’s already taking an interest in the monitors… but I think it’s the pretty actress that reminds him of milk…

Uhm…
Yes, you can run AE on a dual display system. I’d highly recommend it actually.
Personally, I have the system set up to stretch the desktop across the two displays. So maximizing the window (in Windows) will spread AE over the two displays.
I’m not sure why you expect problems, but maybe you could explain?

Ah… those were the days… On the other hand, I’m currently doing some roto on a couple of HDCAM shots that will be transferred to 35mm. If it would end up as a stamp-sized Cinepak, I could be a lot more sloppy…
