The statement that there are no broadcasts or transmissions in true 1920x1080i is incorrect.

Perhaps cable and satellite limit more. However I can assure you with proof of fact that at least NBC, CBS and PBS transmit over the air at full 1920x1080i. The professional cameras they use are true 1920x1080i without the consumer 1440 conversion. When the sources are pristine or live HD footage, their images are superb and second to none.

January 21, 2010 at 6:50 pm in reply to: Transition Problem Vegas 9?

I am having a similar problem with some fade-ins. That is, when I use several starting screens, packaged with Vegas 9, and I apply a fade-in to them by varying the compositing level from 0 to 100%, they flash instead of varying gradually from black to full picture.

I should clarify that this problem does not occur in High Definition either in preview or final BD from DA5.

However, when I move the rendered (high definition) file to DA5 to make a standard DVD (SD), both the preview and the final SD DVD show the flashing fade-ins.

I noticed that the flashing does not occur on solid colors, or black, but only on some pictures with gradient colors, specially from white.

This problem does not occur either if I apply fade-in to a video scene directly.

The obvious workaround is to avoid those starting screens with gradients or other trouble content. But, I would like to use all of the supplied screens when apropiate …

Has anyone found the actual fix ?

Updating the subject problem, Sony Support acknowledges the general problem and has referred it to their experts as unresolved.

The issue is a colition or incompatibility between DA5 (and Veg8) and Vista 64 DVD drivers. Specifically in my case, DA5 locks completely in Make DVD if I keep both built in PC DVD players enabled. However, if I disable the second built in DVD player, which is a Blueray player, then DA5 (and Veg8) both work as intended and do not lock up at all.

Perhaps this workaround may help others for now.

I am having the same problem without resolution yet from Sony even after following all their advice.
My brand new HP PC Vista 64 locks up completely when “Make DVD” button is pressed in DVD Architect 5.0. It makes no difference whether you have a project loaded or not. Or whether you uncheck “scan database etc “.
Conversely, both Vegas Pro 8.0c and DA 5.0b work flawlessly in my old Windows Xp 32 SP2 albeit slow.

So, don’t feel bad, you have a lot of company for similar problems here and in other forums.

Hope you find the solution, share it so we get back to creating.
