Really? I’m almost sure it’s possible. I used the elipse tool and created a mask around the face area, and then under method selected I chose Position, Scale and Rotation. I tracked the motion of the dogs face and it did so to a ‘resonable’ standard, but as I said that’s probably good enough for the purposes of what I’m doing.

What I’m trying to do now is apply this layer I have with the image of the face to the mask that I’ve tracked. So is that in no way possible?

    Thanks

    Hi Soham,

Sorry, I should have been more clear. I’ve looked at a couple of tutorials but unfortunatly I don’t have CC 2015 (I have the previous version), so therefore I don’t have the ‘Face tracking; option. Is there any other possible way of achieving a similar effect?

One thing I have working in my favour is that this project is a bit of a novelty so it doesn’t have to look particularly professional.

  • Thanks for the responses guys. This has been really helpful. I’m gonna try out a few of these methods tonight and see which works best.

    Hi Chris,

Do you know what this material is called? I’ve not heard of it. I did think of putting some sort of box over it but with the window frames and all I don’t think that would really work.

Can anyone shed some light on why it is jumping like that?

No the camera was on a tripod, it definitely isn’t anything to do with the camera movement. Is there a way I can upload the clip to this site to show what I mean?

Initially, yes. I slowed it down to 50% in FCP. But I wanted to use Motion because quite frankly, the slow mo in FC looks horrible! I wanted to create something quite professional looking. I would imagine this would this would be the same case with frame blending in Motion (I’m just assuming here, I’ll try it out later and see if the results are better).

There is another clip later on in my timeline that I am planning to do an ‘extreme slow motion’ on (probably about 10%), so it would be nice to know why the clip I am exporting from Motion is suddenly jumpy. Any ideas?

    Hi Mark,

I seem to have resolved this issue. I just exported the clip as an independent clip and then open motion instead of Sending the clip to motion from the FCP timeline. Somehow this resolved the problem!

However now I’ve managed to get the optical flow working and reduced the clip to 50% speed. And for some reason the resulting clip seems to be very jumpy……erm, any help with regards to this problem?

And in case it isn’t obvious, yes this is my first time using motion.

I’ve recorded different footage since using the head cleaner but the same thing still keeps happening. Yes playback on the cam itself is fine. I haven’t really tried anything else because I’m not 100% sure what the issue is. I assumed this may have been a common problem. Do you have any other suggestions?
