Naw i bought multiple cords and tried on different computers. That was the only thing that did it. I think they should try it on someone else computer with the same 4 pin Connection before buying new hardware though.

I think i finally found the problem. After of months of trying everything, i went down to river to think. and what i thought was:
before my laptop crashed my Ilink worked all the time without a problem but now on my new Desktop its not working. At first i thought it was the XP – windows 7 difference but it wasn’t.
to use your SONY FX7 and other camcorders you need the same end cord. Huh, See when i was using 4 to 6 pin. Nothing was recognized. so i used a 4 to 4 pin cord and that worked immediately. I felt so stupid. and when i thought about it. That was the main difference between my laptop and Desktop. so use the same 4 to 4 pin cord and it should work. Let me know if it works for you
