ok now adobe media encoder keeps crashing whenever the file is close to being finished. can i ever win? not to mention compressor is totally frozen and pooped. it seems like nothing works.

Thank you guys. I learned a lot in your posts. Now here’s the problem, I converted it to those codecs because I stupidly did not know how to deal with MTS files which are the video files on my Canon HF10. I isolated the files from the camera, and then recorded more footage, which screwed everything up for me to Log and Transfer.
So I can’t convert them to a suitable codec because:
1. Compressor has been fucked up for the past month, I tried fixing it but the previous conversions are frozen stiff on the app and will not delete no matter what I’ve tried.
2. MPEG Streamclip does not recognize .MTS files
3. Other converters like Toast and Aimersoft Total Media Converter will not convert to an “editing” codec.I also was not aware that FCP needed 48 KHz audio in order to work properly.
Any tips?

2. How many streams of video are you tying to do with multi cam?
3. How full is your media drive?1. H.264
2. I don’t know what “streams” of video means but I have two camera angles going on the multiclip

Oh and the audio and video still drifts out of sync when I import the audio as the SAME format as it originally works in. Things about FCP that make my blood boil. Funny how it doesn’t drift in Garageband, or ProTools, or Premiere, but it will in FCP. Though I’d still rather use FCP because the benefits outweigh the negatives.

Okay, I fixed it. There were two extra tracks in there that were the white noise problems. Got rid of that.
Now here’s the next problem that FCP has presented me. Oh what a great app this is… Apple sure knows how to keep things easy for users. This problem has been going on the entire time I’ve been working with FCP. I have tried hundreds of things to fix it, I have changed the bit rate, sample rate, I have done an extensive search in the forum for an answer, it is never answered to fix my problem.
When I import video into FCP, the audio and video are synced up fine. When I add my own audio to the video, it slowly goes out of sync. So I thought, “I know! I’ll just use ProTools to sync up the video, export it and then import it back into FCP.”
Well, it worked fine in ProTools. And it worked fine in QT, but then I import it back into FCP and this great app still doesn’t sync up right. I have been trying to deal with this problem for weeks now, and it is the only problem (of the many many many) in FCP that I have not yet overcome.
PLEASEEEE someone help me. All of the videos are out of sync.
I am using an external firewire800 hd for both the audio and the video, im using a MBP.
It’s funny, everytime I try the files out in another application (Premiere, ProTools, Garageband, Logic) it works fine. Synced up perfect. But in FCP it is not in sync. It makes my blood boil someone please help before I smash my computer.

converted EVERYTHING to prores 30fps and it finally works perfectly. everything is perfect. happy.

Alright well I bought a 1TB firewire 800 drive. And shit is still acting slow. I am doing multiclip with 3 camera angles with 2 of the cameras are 720p 30fps and then one was converted from a tape capture into the exact same format as the 720p. Everytime it hits the converted cam, shit drops frame and gets wacky, saying, “General Error” and the drop frame warning window also pops up.
I am using a MBP w/ 2.4Ghz and 4GB 667 Mhz DDR2 SDRAM.
The external firewire drive is a WD My Book Studio Edition.
Shit is still so slow. ALL I WANT TO DO IS EDIT VIDEO. Had no idea it takes this much money and effort to just edit some video. Feeling like I should stay with being a sound engineer, feeling like video is not for me. I have not yet got to feel what it is like to use multiclip properly. Feel like I will never get there. Feel like my videos that I shoot will have to be sent to some ‘expert’ who will charge me tons of money to change camera angles and a few extra things here and there (which is all I want to do).
Feel like my business will never get off the ground if I don’t overcome this problem. Feel like I’ll have to buy MORE RAM and MORE MEMORY and a RAID in order to just edit some video.
