Thanks for your posts. I can’t think of anything to much worse than, this type of pre-release problem. I loved my DVX-100a more than any other camera I have ever owned including my DY-90 D9 rig. The film like images created a perceived better image to my client than the beautiful D-9 footage with a great lens that cost more than the DVX-100a and all the accessories and bag it was living in.
I ask because I eagerly await Panasonic’s next ground breaking product, I skipped the Varicam and learned the competing high end camera, but cant wait for the HVX-200, for myself and my own productions, if it lives up to the legacy of the DVX-100a, (but much better of course).

Thank you for your help. I do appreciate it. I guess a paste attributes command would be high on the list for the next revision of the RED software. I love RED and all the great things you can do with it and the integration. You think compositing software manufacturers would jump into that kind of work flow enhancement pretty fast.
I am a little surprised someone from Boris hasn’t jumped in here.

Funny, sure is easy in PPo or, edit and many other apps. How could this be left out of the new and powerful FCP 5?

You might try capturing your HDV as HDV then, use FCP media manager to recompress it as DVCproHD 1080i. This works pretty well. You will have to see if you get interlacing issues. Or try compressor’s advanced transcoding to DVCpro HD from the HDV captures.
Not a perfect workflow but might do it for you.

Yes, we will see. Initially it looks very good when de-interlaced and down converted to 8 bit uncompressed SD.

Thanks. I have Motion 2 so I am trying this very thing but in motion and bringing the motion project into FCP. It looks pretty good, seems to retain the resolution very well. Gives slight interlace twiter on horiz. lines. It seems to deinterlace the footage as well, but very nicely for SD work. Since I will be creating a film look anyway this isn’t really much of an issue on this project.
I think the interlacing issues may actually be related to artifacting on the HDV or a chroma sampling issue. As when I imported the HDV clips into the FCP SD timeline they render out interlaced but are just not quite natural looking, for lack of a better term.

I would recheck to make sure that you have “all frames” selected in view/external video after selecting the BM 1080 HDTV 8 bit. I think mine goes to off when I select the setting BM 1080 HDTV 8 bit. Other than that it must be a support issue and I am not really an expert on Mac tech stuff. That is why I bought MAC since I had become an expert on PC trouble shooting and wanted to get back to editing and outputting my projects, the way it should be.Good Luck,

I have a decklink SP and a dual 2.5 with fcp 5 and it does the down conversion in RT out as letterboxed 16:9. I have been using the HDV AIC codec as the manual says the performance is supposed to be a little better since it doesn’t have to process the IBP structure. I choose view BM 1080 8 bit 29.97 in external video.The performance of SD is quite a bit better in my experience. I might suggest downconverting first then editing uncompressed SD if your drives will handle the data rate. If you capture the HDV “Mpeg Stream Clip” will transcode and scale to uncompressed SD from HDV.
