I don’t have a miniDV camera with RCA inputs but your answer gave me another option. I do have a Sony DSR-11 deck with RCA inputs. So, I’m capturing it on to a DVCAM tape and, hopefully, I can import to FCP that way.

    Thanks.

I’m trying to capture the HD from my Sony Z1U but FCP is having trouble reading the video and it won’t capture. Any suggestions? I have the camera menu set as follows:

    VCR HDV/DV : DV
    component: 1080i/480i
    i. link conv: On
    Down Convert: Edge Crop
    A/V DV Out: off

The computer can control the camera VCR mode, it recognizes the timecode from the tape, but it just won’t capture.

Yes, you decifered my message correctly. The footage was shot HD on a JVC camera but it plays on my Sony Z1U. I’ll give it a try and see what happens. Thanks.

Here’s a resource to check out. He has a lot of info, release forms, legal answers, etc. on his site. http://www.marklitwak.com .

My biggest advice on making a documentary …. GET YOUR RELEASES IN WRITING and GET THE FUNDING UP FRONT! …. and watch out for music licensing!

    Good luck.

Thanks. It worked today. Maybe FCP was tired last night.

    SUCCESS!

I knew how to separate the channels in the audio mix menu on the DSR-11. What I didn’t understand was how to get FCP to chose the channels. I found out that by going to the A/V settings, clicking capture presets, edit, and in the QT audio settings menu there is a place to pick which channels you want to capture.

    THANKS EVERYONE!!!!

Won’t let me do that. All four channels are mixed when they come into FCP.

The master is CH1 stereo left; CH2 stereo right; CH3 dialogue; CH4 music & effects
