Boris Continuum Complete version 4 includes Film Damage that works with Tiger, but we don’t have any plans to release this as a freebie.

You can install multiple versions on the same system. Boris products already recognize both settings, it’s the Avid timeline that you need to be concerned with. If you have the same version on both systems, it will work seamlessly.
AVX 2 is not required and is not yet supported by FX. (Only BCC AVX supports AVX 2 so far). But as an aside, I believe that AVX 2 supports versioning (but I’m not sure). So on an AVX 2 Avid, the timeline would recognize older versions of a plugin as being the same plug-in and you wouldn’t have this problem. Something to look forward to in the future as more plug-ins are ported to AVX 2.0.
If you want to test the compatibility of your two systems, have them install the trial version of FX8. It will work without a watermark for 14-days. You can download it from http://www.borisfx.com.

The AVX architecture will not recognize two plug-in versions with different names as being the same. So FX8 will not read FX7 effects. (I believe that this limitation is fixed with AVX 2.) However, the effects are compatible between FX. So if you save the settings to the desktop out of FX7 you can move them to the FX8 system. Apply FX8. Once you launch FX8, open the FX7 setting and render it in FX8.
FX8 was the first version to support Tiger, but this is not what is causing your problem.

I spoke to our resident Vegas expert and he would like to look at your render options. If you’re using a draft render or some combination of render parameters, Vegas could be sending Red frames instead of fields therefore throwing off the render by x2 (expecially since the preview in Vegas looks fine).
He also wanted to know if this happens in track types other than an empty event. If you send me
your project(and email address),we could probably sort this out rather quickly.

Red 3.04 was released before the Mac Intel systems. However, we are currently qualifying all our shipping
products on the new Mac Intel platform and expect no major problems. We will post the results on our web site ( and here) shortly.You should also check to see if your host application supports the Mac Intel systems.

Boris FX is a smaller company than Media 100 was in its heyday. Most of us wear more than one hat. So don’t worry. Even if we don’t have someone who’s official title is “Customer Advocate,” we have a team of people who act as customer advocates.
If it makes you feel better, I was an editor at PBS for six years and continue to edit on a freelance basis. I am also a former Avid trainer and am in the process of completing my first Final Cut Pro project (a feature-length documentary). My background is not unique; many Boris FX/Media 100 employees have strong editing or compositing backgrounds. While I was very sorry to see Steve go (we’ve worked together since Avid) and recognize his many contributions, I think you will find that we still have an effective team in place.
