Newby slacktwaddle here. Been reading the thread as I have the same problem. I believe I have followed the instructions provided in the thread but I am still not able to render avi with MPEG Layer 3 because “no supported formats”.
I have re-formatted/ deleted the partition drive that ran the original Windows7 (64-bit) and completed a fresh install of Windows 7, vegas pro 10c (32-bit) and DivX including windows 7 updates. The only codec I installed was DIVX NO OTHER CODEC including CODEC PACKS! Also, Pro 10c was freshly downloaded in case my original file was corrupted.
Also, opened and set up WN media player (custom set up). Also I ran through WMP the technical support option that allows you to view all of your computer’s basic information including: O/S, Binaries, Audio/Video Codecs MPEG/DVD Filters, etc.
Within the audio codecs I can find ‘ACM Frannhofer IIS MPEG Layer-3 Codec (decode only)’. My limited understanding from online forums tells me I do not have the full or advanced version of this audio codec. But I thought Windows 7 included this codec?! According to my Windows 7’s System Information this acm codec is listed as ‘l3codeca.acm’ version ‘1.9.0.401’. If my research is correct this is the standard version and not the advanced or pro version. Is this why I cannot render avi in MPEG Layer 3 format? If so, is not the advanced and /or pro version(s) included in Windows 7?
What are my options at this point? I am content with MP4 (AVC) and WMV formats, but I still want the avi option. Before rendering I always set the vegas projects properties to match the media setting source files). I’ve tried various combinations within templates and Custom options, etc.
I’m missing something simple and obvious. I guess I need it explained “as if I was a 6 year old”.
