it’s quite simple, Smoke for Mac ONLY support SDI output NOT the analog component out. So in order to use an external broadcast monitor i have the option of using SDI-1 out or SDI-2 out from the K3, again the component out is not functional.

Since my PVM20L5 does not have the HD-SDI input optional board, i need to feed it Component HD…therefore the need for a SDI to analog converter.

Btw, the K3 does not have analog audio out, only AES, you get 2 channel of RCA output if you buy the optional K3-box.

Please read my 2nd post….i know K3 has component out BUT i need to use one of the SDI out port as Smoke for Mac ONLY support SDI in/out on K3

Btw, K3 does not have analog audio out just component.

I’m aware it has component analog out. I need to use specifically the SDI out to monitor as Smoke on Mac only uses SDI port on K3 and my monitor does not have the SDI input option board.

Anyways, back to my original question…anyone used Blackmagic SDI to Analog mini converters with K3 ??

I have not used VBR in years…CBR all the way here ! As i said, Compressor is not bad but it’s the downrez that kill it. There’s still a good difference between hardware and software downscaling.

Downconvert via compressor look pretty bad. I’ve tried virtually every setting combination…still not acceptable for most of my costumers.
My workflow is usually HD output from my FCP to a post house for downscale ( i believe they use Teranex ) then i encode with CinemaCraft. This workflow makes beautiful looking DVD.
I just want to test the downconvert of some of these capture cards and see where they stand next to the big boys. Oh well, i guess i need a deck or a second system to record back.
