I need to convert HD-SDI to Component HD and stereo balanced audio. Will the blackmagic SDI to Analog play well with the Aja K3 ? The same converter made by Aja cost almost double….is it any better ???

The Kona3 has analog hd out if you need it.

AJA Kona 3 HAS Analog Component and analog audio output.

I’m aware it has component analog out. I need to use specifically the SDI out to monitor as Smoke on Mac only uses SDI port on K3 and my monitor does not have the SDI input option board.

Anyways, back to my original question…anyone used Blackmagic SDI to Analog mini converters with K3 ??

Please read my 2nd post….i know K3 has component out BUT i need to use one of the SDI out port as Smoke for Mac ONLY support SDI in/out on K3

Btw, K3 does not have analog audio out just component.

[Anhtu Vu] “Btw, K3 does not have analog audio out just component.”

Btw, yes it does have analog audio out. We’ve been using three Kona 3 for years.

I still don’t understand what the problem is here. You have two SDI I/O on the Kona 3. So one goes to your Smoke and then you send the Analog to your Monitor. Right?

Why do you need to convert the second SDI out of the Kona 3 to Analog and not use the Analog output from the Kona along with the analog audio?

I still don’t understand, but yes it will work.

All outputs are active all the time on a Kona. If the frame buffer is full, analog and digital will work.

it’s quite simple, Smoke for Mac ONLY support SDI output NOT the analog component out. So in order to use an external broadcast monitor i have the option of using SDI-1 out or SDI-2 out from the K3, again the component out is not functional.

Since my PVM20L5 does not have the HD-SDI input optional board, i need to feed it Component HD…therefore the need for a SDI to analog converter.

Btw, the K3 does not have analog audio out, only AES, you get 2 channel of RCA output if you buy the optional K3-box.

You’re the first person I’ve heard of that has the K3 without the breakout box. Not sure why anyone would not want to have that as it’s much easier to connect gear.

Smoke is the first software I’ve heard of that disables the analog output on the K3. That’s pretty dumb quite honestly on their part.

Any SDI to Component adapter should work since it’s just a video feed. No clue on how the BMD will handle the image in terms of any sort of a delay to your monitor due to the conversion.

tell me about it…very odd that they disable the component out. I’ve been on-lining on Smoke for a few months now and for some things, it’s brilliant, and others that are so odd, not user friendly, workflow killer and just plain dumb.

    Anyways,thanks for the reply.

    Does component out work otherwise?
