Yes, they’re on the timeline and I can edit the project fine. My problem is that they no longer show up in the Vegas explorer when I try to import them from Vegas, rather than opening the file from Windows and dragging and dropping the footage. The render option for mov has disappeared as well.

[Bob Peterson] “Why update Quicktime? Are these MOV files? If the problem is mp3s which Vegas can process, I would try rendering each one in Vegas to a wav file. Then replace the mp3s in your project with the wav files, and see if Vegas will render it that way.

They’re AVCHD files in an mov wrapper, I believe, from my Canon t3i. The mp3 issue was different, though even when I dropped them onto the timeline they were totally glitched out. I eventually fixed that through guess work; I took the mp3 dll file from the ProgramFiles, removed it from the mp3 folder, then put it back, and it somehow worked.

I was able to open the folder with the videos from Windows and drag them into the timeline, but even after the reinstall I couldn’t import them directly using Vegas.

I guess I’m just curious if Windows 10 runs better. I don’t do much computing other than watching videos on the internet and editing.

Vegas works now. But I may have to clean up a bunch of stuff on my PC, anyways. The tedium of doing all those steps one by one, though, is almost worse than just getting another job and buying a new computer. But I may try it.

No, it’s a platter hard drive.
I wonder if it’s partly because my PC is getting old. It was built in 2011 and I’m finally getting a black screen on startup before I get to the desktop for about 15 seconds, which I’ve learned is an indication that Windows 7 needs to be reinstalled.

Got it working through doing what amounts to nonsense. I went into the Program Files and cut and paste the mp3 codec dll file to my desktop, then copied and paste the Vegas 11 mp3 dll into the Vegas 13 folder. Vegas wouldn’t even open, it would get an error. But when I deleted the 11 mp3 codec from the 13 file and put the 13 mp3 dll file back into that folder, it now works.

It happens with all mp3s. I couldn’t even render to mp3. I uninstalled Vegas, deleted all the codecs and registry files (at least, for Vegas 13-I still have 10 and 11 installed, though I never use them), and reinstalled it. Still have the same problem.

You change that in your render settings. Go down to “Customize Template” when you open it and you can probably lower it significantly. Maybe try 3 or 4 mbps instead of wherever it is now.

The bit rate affects file size, not fps. For a still picture I’m not sure it makes much difference. But bring the bit rate way down, especially since for a video that’s just a still image you won’t need it high.
